2018 UIL Team Preview: Caldwell

PBR Texas Staff

The Texas high school season kicks off on February 19, the first day for regular season games. Most teams will begin practicing on January 26, getting their rosters set and finalizing their lineups.

Over the next several weeks, leading up to opening day, we will be rolling out team previews of high school teams all across the state and across all classifications, eventually launching our Preseason Power 25.

We have been sending out our annual Preseason Questionnaire to coaches all across the state and as the responses flood in we will bring you a snapshot of what to expect along with top players and keys to success for that particular team. If you don’t see your team’s season preview make sure your head coach fills out his Preseason Questionnaire.

SEASON PREVIEW

Coach Toney and the Caldwell Hornets return seven starters and one pitcher from last season's 15-12 team. The Hornets will rely on stellar defense and an aggressive competitive edge to propel themselves. The real question mark will be on the mound, but Coach Toney has plenty of arms to overcome this challenge. Leading the way will be two-way players 1B/RHP Ethan Blinka, 2B/RHP Will Faust and OF/RHP Mitchell Parks. Junior SS Kade Sanchez will provide rock solid defense up the middle. Currently ranked 124 in the Texas 2019 Class, Sanchez has a high motor and real presence in the middle of the field.
