TN: Cross Hit Scout Day - Position Players

Tim Kay
PBR Tennessee Director of Scouting

On August 11th, we Vol State hosted a Scout Day for the Cross Hit organization.  This event included a position player workout, followed by pitchers throwing a 10-15 pitch pen on the game mound. Players were afforded the opportunity to showcase their abilities in front of the PBR Tennessee staff and college coaches in attendance. The following is a look at every position player from the event:

LOGAN SMITH / C / 3B / STATION CAMP, TN / 2019

60 Time: 7.47, Pop Time: 1.90-1.97, Position Velocity:  C-74, Exit Velocity: 95
6-foot-2, 175-pound, RHH showed a jump and recorded one of the top exit velocities we have seen this year.  Tall, athletic frame w/ well-proportioned lean strength, super projectable.  Offensively, hits w/ a straight on, slightly crouched stance w/ short hand rhythm into proper stride and load.  Generates above average bat speed through the zone.  Barrel stays in the zone for a long time w/ ability to spray line drives all over the field.  Consistent hard contact.  Projectable pull power.  Defensively, can present an earlier target and maintain that target to give his pitchers a better visual cue.  Tools to receive, moves well behind the plate w/ an idea of how to frame the baseball.  Mobile w/ ability to box the baseball.  As a thrower, shows solid footwork w/ quick release and carry to target arm strength.
