PBR Texas JUCO Insider

Another week down across the state of Texas, and another group of huge accomplishments. 7 teams went unbeaten: #2 McLennan, #3 Grayson, #4 Odessa, #5 Weatherford, #8 Navarro, #19 Alvin, and #21 Eastfield.

This week we look at two of those teams, as well as two pitchers with impressive starts, and the Hitter and Pitcher of the Week.

Perfect Game

In game 1 of Tyler's doubleheader against North Arkansas, something happened that you do not see every day. A Perfect Game. This was thrown by FR RHP Cooper Rawls. He went 5.0 innings while striking out 8 along the way. He, of course, had help from his offense who scored 10 runs in those 5 innings to end the game early in a run rule. Leading the offense in that game was FR LF Heath Hood who was 3-3 on the day with a run batted in and 2 runs; and SO 2B Erik Owens (uncommitted) who was 1-3, with a triple, 2 runs batted in and 2 runs.

No-Hitter

In game one of Odessa 4-game series with Luna (NM) SO LHP Marc Luna (uncommitted) threw a 5 inning No-Hitter Striking out 8 while only allowing 1 walk. He was also helped by his offense who run-ruled Luna in 5 winning 12-0. Leading the offense in the game was SO INF Harry Fullerton (New Mexico) who went 2-4 with 2 runs batted in; and SO INF Mason McLenna (New Mexico) who was 1-2, with 3 runs batted in and a run.

#2 McLennan 4-0

This was McLennan’s second week of conference play. They played two games at Vernon on Thursday and then hosted the final two games Saturday. They outscored them 28-13 over those 4 games. Leading their offense over those four games was the Freshman duo of INF Brett Squires and FR INF Jale Battles. Squires hit .467 over those 4 games with 2 walks, 2 doubles, a triple, home run, 4 runs batted in, and 3 runs scored. Battles hit .500, with 2 walks, a double, home run, 3 runs batted in, 6 runs, and 2 stolen bases. On the mound in game 3 SO LHP Grant Miller (TCU) threw a complete game going 7 innings, striking out 4 with 2 walks.

#3 Grayson 4-0

Grayson hosted Cisco on Thursday then traveled to Cisco on Saturday. In those four games, Grayson put up 37 runs while only allowing 10. In Game 1, FR LHP Braden Carmichael dominated on the mound throwing a complete game striking out 12 with 3 walks and just 1 earned run.
