Travis Tigers Win 2-1 Over Kempner

SUGAR LAND, TX - Fortunately the weather held off long enough for us to catch a solid matchup on Tuesday night between Kempner HS and Travis HS. On the mound for Kempner was the No. 1 player in the Texas 2018 Class, RHP Simeon Woods-Richardson. A Texas commit, Woods-Richardson is ranked No. 24 Overall, and No. 46 in the PBR Draft 100.

The Travis Tigers got on the board in the first inning, thanks to a double off the bat of DH Zac Hamman, driving in leadoff hitter Sammy Faltine, who reached on an error. The Tigers added a run in the top of the second when Faltine drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to right field. Another unearned run, but either way, the Tigers were up 2-0.

Woods-Richardson would not allow another run the rest of the game. Working around six defensive errors to pitch out of several big spots.

Travis starter 2018 LHP Brandon Setliff, a Texas Lutheran commit, was able to keep the Kempner offense off balance, and off the board until the fifth inning, when Woods-Richardson doubled to left-centerfield, driving in the only run of the game for Kempner.

As we headed to the seventh inning, 2019 OF/RHP Sammy Faltine came in from centerfield to close out the game. Another Texas commit, Faltine is ranked No. 7 in the Texas 2019 Class, No. 36 Overall. After two quick outs, Travis Head Coach Rodney Hernandez made the decision to intentionally walk Woods-Richardson for the second time in the game, putting the tying run on first base. But Faltine got a weak tapper back to the mound to finish off the Cougars. Final Score, FB Travis 2, FB Kempner 1.
