Vandegrift vs. Westwood

AUSTIN, TX - The Vandegrift Vipers visited the Westwood Warriors in a District 13-6A contest. Both teams turned to senior arms on the mound that went deep into the game. Matthew Klassen got the start for Vandegrift, and threw all six innings for the visiting Vipers. Westwood turned to Peter Fagan (University of Puget Sound commit), who threw 6.2 innings before giving way to Mason Flood for the last out in a high pressure situation.

After trading runs in the first inning, Vandegrift got back on the board in the third, scoring two on a Trey Mongauzy single up the middle. Westwood answered in the bottom half of the inning when Ian Cox hit an RBI double.

Extra base hits were key in the Westwood offensive attack. The Warriors added a pair of runs in the fourth that were a product of two doubles, one by Mason Flood and the other by Jack Brinson. They carried that momentum over into the fifth, when Josh Astacio lead off the inning with a home run to left.

Vandegrift would mount a comeback in the 7th. The Vipers scored three runs with two outs, but the tying run was stranded at third to end the game.

Final Score: Vandegrift 7, Westwood 8
