Westfield vs. Clear Creek

CROSBY, TX - Spring Westfield and Clear Creek faced off on Thursday at the Crosby Tournament.
Clear Creek scored their runs in bunches as eight of their nine runs came in the 4th and 5th innings. 2019 OF Hunter Smith led the way with three RBI while 2019 C Isaac Lopez had two RBI. All five of Smith and Lopez’s RBI came in the 4th and 5th innings. 2021 RHP Cy Kennedy was able to keep Westfield off balance, mixing his fastball and curveball.
2019 RHP/OF Xavier Lovett (No. 31 in 2019 PBR Texas rankings and No. 258 in 2019 PBR overall rankings, committed to Mississippi State) started on the mound for Westfield. Lovett was good through the first three innings, allowing just one run. In the 4th, he gave up a single, two walks and a hit batter and all four of those batters scored. Westfield scored their one run on a sacrifice fly from 2022 RHP/UTL Mateo Lamas.

Xavier Lovett, RHP/OF, Westfield, 2019
Mississippi State commit. Estimated 5-foot-9, 160-pound wiry, athletic, projectable frame. The right-hander throws from a high ¾ slot with a long arm swing. His fastball was 89-91 mph the entire outing, flashing some arm side run to righties. Threw a curveball that was 76-77 with 11-5 shape, flashing the ability to land it in the zone for strikes. Command of both pitches was better from the stretch. At the plate, he features a high leg lift with a quick swing and a solid opposite field approach with line drive power. Ran a 4.34 from home to 1st.
