Texas Rankings Update: 2025 Class (November 2023)

TEXAS - As we wind down the 2023 campaign, it is time to look one more time at our 2025 rankings now that the season is over. The top of the 2025 class is full of up the middle position players, the traditional hard throwing righties, and one LHP that may have won more big games than anyone on the list. Let’s take a deeper look at the top 10

TOP 10
1. KAYSON CUNNINGHAM - SS - SA JOHNSON HS - TEXAS TECH
The Texas Tech commit may be the best pure hitter in Texas regardless of class. He has elite barrel to ball skills and uses the whole field better than most. This past year he also started picking his pitches, and showed off his power potential as well. He is a smart player, with great instincts and feel. He has the athleticism and required arm to stay at SS. He plays with high energy and always seems to make something good happen for his team.
2. MARCOS PAZ - RHP - HEBRON HS - LSU
We have been a big fan of Paz since the first time we saw him throw, and he continues to get better each season. He had a big fall, as he committed to LSU in September. Paz has the demeanor of a 10 year vet on the mound and attacks every hitter with precision and poise. His fastball has ticked up and can sit in the mid 90’s in short stints, and holds low 90’s the whole game. His secondaries are both above average to plus. His slider probably developed more this year than any single pitch in Texas. It is a true plus offering now, and he can rip it north of 3,000 rpm’s. He also throws a changeup that he can throw to righties or lefties and shows great feel for the pitch. Paz is part of a loaded Hebron pitching staff headed into the spring.
3. LUCAS FRANCO - SS - CINCO RANCH HS - TCU
Franco jumped into the top 5 this year, and keeps performing everytime we see him. The LHH SS/3B is another one that can hit from foul pole to foul pole, and do it with some pop. He has a super projectable frame, and as he continues to fill out, the future Horned Frog could grow into some real juice. He is a good defender and could play either position on the left side. He has good rhythm on the dirt and shows great instincts at the hot corner.
4. OMAR SERNA - C - DOBIE HS - LSU
Serna has a couple of the best tools in the state with his raw power and his arm behind the plate. The future LSU Tiger really showed off his tools this summer at Area Code Underclass where he hit multiple balls over 100 mph and showed the ability to leave the ballpark to all fields. Behind the plate, the Dobie standout shows a plus arm behind the dish and can eliminate the run game for the opposing team.
5. AIDEN BARRIENTES - RHP - KATY HS - TCU
Another future Horned Frog, the Katy RHP had a big 2023. His stuff kept making jumps, and at Area Code he was electric. His fastball gets in the low 90’s with more coming, and has good life with good spin. He pairs that with a plus slider in that he can spin north of 2800 rpm’s. He also shows a useful changeup to keep LHH honest. Aiden has a clean, athletic delivery that he repeats well that allows him to be a strike thrower as well.
6. LUKE BILLINGS - C/RHP - PROSPER HS - UNCOMMITTED
Billings continues to be one of the more versatile players in the state. The one time Tennessee commit, reopened his recruitment this fall, and is our top uncommitted player in the state. Billings' top position is catcher, where he has all the tools to stick back there. He is a plus athlete for the position, and has a plus arm. At the plate, Billings offers big power potential from the right side. And it seems to always show against good pitching. He was a finalist at the Home Run Derby at this year’s inaugural PBR All American Game, showing his big time juice. Billings could also throw meaningful innings at the next level. He has a low 90’s fastball with a high spin breaking ball.
7. COOPER FULBRIGHT - RHP - STRAKE JESUIT HS - TEXAS A&M
The Texas A&M commit may have the most electric arm in the state. Fulbright showed some of the loudest stuff to end the summer at Area Code. He sat 93-95 with the fastball and flashed a low to mid 80’s slider that exceeded 3100 rpm’s. He has Friday night starter stuff, and as the command continues to tighten up he has a chance to keep making big jumps.
8. MATTHEW BOUGHTON - SS - COVENANT CHRISTIAN HS - TEXAS A&M
Another future Aggie, there may not be a better glove in the state than Boughton. The shortstop can make every play at the position, and even make some of the ones you think there is no way. He has the arm and athleticism to stick there for a long time. He ended the fall on fire and the power continues to take a step. In a class full of elite defenders, Boughton may be the best.
9. BRODY WALLS - RHP - MCKINNEY BOYD HS - TEXAS
Walls has been a personal favorite of mine for a long time. The Longhorns commit has a super athletic delivery that is free and easy that he repeats well. He has a quick arm that can produce easy low to mid 90’s velo on his fastball, and he has shown the ability to sink it and elevate it. He throws a hard low to mid 80’s slider that can get s/m in the zone. He has a changeup that plays well against lefties, as he throws it with conviction and the same arm speed as his fastball. Walls is also a really talented defender up the middle, and his athleticism stands out.
10. JACK McKERNAN - LHP - RIDGE POINT HS - TEXAS
Another future Longhorn to round out the top 10, Mckernan is our top LHP in the state for the ‘25 class. Mckernan has pitched big game after big game and continues to dominate. He throws a heavy low 90’s fastball with a repeatable, shorter arm action. He does a good job of repeating that arm action on his secondaries, as he flashes an above avg. changeup and slider. The change up really fades away from RHH and gets some bad swings. He shows the ability to throw the slider with precision to righties and lefties.
