Central VA Prospect ID: Position Player Analysis

The Central Virginia Prospect ID was held on Tuesday June 13 at the Virginia Sports complex in Ruther Glen, VA. Athletes from around the state came to perform in front of the PBR scouting staff and colleges from the state. Early this week we looked at the pitchers from the event. Here is a full breakdown of the position players from that event:

Christopher Allen 2B Kings Fork 2018
Allen has an athletic frame, hits from the right side from a balanced stance, short stride on line, loads back. Some hip explosion and balance throughout his swing. Chops down at ball and then comes uphill through it. Line drive swing, good approach working the middle of the field. Exit velocity was 80. Ran a 6.81 60. At short, works around ball, has average hands and a clean exchange. Throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, position velocity was 72. Plays through the ball well.

Bryce Bowman SS John Battle 2018
Bowan has a lankier athletic frame, hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance. Toe tap stride, smooth load back with a bit of a wrap, good rhythm. Some hip explosion and balance to his swing. Quick to the ball, works uphill through it with extension, line drive swing with gap power, exit velocity 84. Has some bat speed and power potential. At short, quick, clean feet, fields with a wide base and soft hands. Clean exchange, works through the ball well. Throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, position velocity was 76.

Derek Domecq LHP/OF Western Albemarle 2018
Domecq has a strong, athletic frame. He hits from the right side from an open, upright stance, big leg kick stride, smooth load back with a slight wrap, good rhythm to swing. Explosive hips and some balance to his swing. Works uphill through the ball with good extension, pull approach with power, exit velocity was 98. Easy home run power to his pull side. Has speed, ran a 6.79 60. In the outfield, gets behind the ball well and plays through it. Clean exchange, throws from lower three-quarters arm slot, longer quick arm action, position velocity was 86.

Nicholas Ericsson C C.D. Hylton 2019
Ericsson has a lankier frame, hits from the right side from a slightly open, balanced athletic stance. Short stride on line, minimal load. Explosive lower half, some balance throughout his swing. Very short to ball, some extension up through it, exit velocity was 81. Worked gap to gap, has some power potential as he gets stronger. Behind the plate, good depth to his set-up, quiet hands receiving, sticks ball well. Clean exchange, pop times were 2.04-2.16, position velocity was 68. Threw from low three-quarters arm slot, short arm action. Ran a 7.31 60.

Kyle Keahi Layugan RHP/C Mid-Pacific Institute (HI) 2018
Layugan has an athletic frame with a strong lower half. Ran a 7.34 60 yard dash. Hits from the right side from an athletic, balanced stance. Short stride on line, smooth load back. Hips drift forward and then explode violently, some rhythm to his swing and some balance too. Short and quick to the ball with extension up through it. Slight pull tendency with power potential, exit velocity was 93. At third base, average hands, plays through ball into exchange, throws from low three-quarters arm slot, infield velocity was 77. Behind the plate, soft hands and sticks ball well, presents good strike. Wide, deep stance, very quick exchange that is clean, throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a short quick arm, minimal tail to throws. Pop times were 1.87-1.93 with accurate throws to second base.

Alexander Petroka C Albemarle 2018
Petroka has a lanky frame, hits from the left side from an athletic stance. Toe tap stride with weight shift back, no load, good rhythm. Slight arm bar, some hip explosion and balance to swing. Works uphill through the ball with extension, classic lefty swing plane. Pull approach, exit velocity was 80. Behind the plate, quiet receiver. Clean exchange, pop times were 2.16-2.38. Threw from three-quarters arm slot, short arm action, some accuracy to throws, position velocity was 67.

Lew Rice C Collegiate 2019
Rice has an athletic frame. Ran a 7.24 60 yard dash. Hits form the left side from an upright balanced stance. Big leg kick stride and smooth load back, good rhythm to swing. Explosive hips and good balance to his swing. Works uphill through the ball with good extension, pull approach with some power that he can grow into, exit velocity was 86. In the infield, clean footwork and above average hands, works through the ball to a clean exchange. Throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a loose arm action, infield velocity was 78. Behind the plate, receives ball well and sticks it out in front. Clean exchange, throws from low three-quarters arm slot with short arm action, catcher velocity was 70 and pop times were 1.97-2.03.

Dylan Weber LHP/OF Dominion 2019
Weber has an athletic frame, hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance. Short leg kick stride, loads into a wrap. Good balance, some hip rotation. Short to the ball, level swing with extension through it, slight pull approach, line drive hitter with some power potential, exit velocity was 86. In the outfield, gets behind the ball well, clean exchange, throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a loose arm action. Position velocity was 77.

Aidan Willard OF Briar Woods 2019
Willard has a lanky frame. He ran a 7.19 60 yard dash. Hits from the left side from a balanced stance that is more upright. Big leg kick stride, slight load back with a wrap, good rhythm to his swing. Some hip explosion and balance during his swing. Works slightly uphill through the ball and showed good extension with a bit of a pull approach, exit velocity was 77. In the outfield, gets behind the ball, fields with average hands and has a clean exchange. Throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a longer arm action, outfield velocity was 77.
