In mid-February, over 30 players from all corners of DC and Virginia descended on Coastal Sports in Norfolk, Virginia for the Freshmen Free Showcase, our first event of 2021. Today, we continue our breakdown of the event with the infielders:

Michael Barreiro SS / 2B / Frank W. Cox, VA / 2024

Barreiro is 5-4 with an athletic frame that has strength present and some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from an open balanced stance, leg kick stride on line, smooth load down and back to a slight wrap. Hips rotate completely and he maintains good lower half balance. Hands stay inside, goes straight to the ball, uphill swing path with a strong contact point, showed primarily a pull approach with some natural loft built into his swing, exit velocity was 78. In the infield, rounds the ball and fields with a good wide base and soft quick hands, works through the ball to a quick clean exchange, throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, short arm action, position velocity was 71. Ran a 4.20 home to first.

Brett Beasley SS / RHP / Atlantic Shores Christian, VA / 2025

Beasley is 6-1 with a lankier athletic frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from an open balanced athletic stance, strides on line, smooth load down and back to a slight wrap. Hips rotate completely and he maintains good lower half balance. Hands stay inside, shorter and quick to the ball, slightly uphill line drive swing path with strength at contact point and some extension through the ball, longer limbs create added leverage, showed good approach working gap to gap, some gap power present already with the potential to add more, exit velocity was 86. In the infield, rounds the ball and fields with a wider base and above average hands, works through the ball to a quick clean exchange, throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, short loose arm action, position velocity was 77.

Tyler Rowling SS / 2B / Paul VI, VA / 2024

Rowling is 5-10 with a lankier athletic frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open balanced athletic stance, strides on line, short smooth load up and back to a wrap. Hips rotate completely and he maintains some lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short to the ball, uphill line drive swing path with a strong contact point and some extension through the ball, showed good approach working gap to gap, swing generates natural loft and carry in the gaps, exit velocity was 78. In the infield, quick feet, rounds the ball and fields with a wider base and soft hands, works through the ball to a quick clean exchange, throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, short loose arm action, position velocity was 74. He hits from the right side from a slightly open wider balanced athletic stance, low leg kick stride on line, smooth load back to a wrap. Hips rotate with some violence and he maintains some lower half balance.
