Virginia/Maryland went 1-1 on Day 2 of the Future Games, beating Pennsylvania 5-3 and losing to Tennessee 7-6.

Game one was led by Evan Blum (Georgetown Prep) going 3-for-3 with a triple, two RBI, and a run scored on the day. The catcher got the scoring started in the second with an RBI single and then blasted his RBI triple to right-center field.  Tyson Scheumann (McCutheon, IN) and Jacob Paulishak (Middletown) also had two hits apiece for Team Virginia/Maryland.

Team VA/MD pitching kept the PA hitter off balance for most of the day. Miguel Rivera struck out two and gave up one run in his two innings of work, sitting at 84 mph. Will Thomas (Gonzaga) and Toma Shigaki-Than (Oakton) each pitched the final two innings, slamming the door and preserving the Team VA/MD victory.

Game two against Tennessee saw the Volunteer state jump out to an early 3-0 in the first, and were up 7-0 before VA/MD was able to get on the board. VA/MD came all the way back to make it 7-6 but were unable to get it any closer.

VA/MD was led offensively by Scheumann who went 1-for-3 with two RBI with his sixth inning triple to right field. Logan Barker (Colonial Forge) was 1-for-2 with two runs scored. Barker also pitched the sixth and seventh innings, facing the minimum hitters and using a sharp breaking ball with depth en route to three strikeouts.

Overall VA/MD was led by Scheumann (3-for-6) Blum (3-for-4, 3 RBI) and Paulishak (3-for-4). Kristan Curry Jr. (Avalon) reached base four times in seven plate appearances and had three stolen bases.

VA/MD will conclude their day today with a 2 pm game vs. Team Indiana.
