Pre-Summer Trials Pitcher Analysis: Part 3

In late May, PBR VA/DC hosted the Pre-Summer Trials at Virginia Sports Complex, featuring over 60 players from all corners of our coverage area. Over the next week, we will post the scouting reports on that event as we add them to each player's profile. Here is the second chunk of pitchers, in alphabetical order:

R.J. Payne, LHP/OF, William Monroe, 2017
Payne stands 6-0 tall and has an athletic frame. Throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a shorter arm action and some effort. Drop and drive delivery, shoulders slightly uphill and closed with an open landing and slight fall off finish. Fastball has downward angle and sat 79-81, touching 82. 12/6 curveball with decent armspeed, 65-68. Fading change-up with good armspeed 70-73.

Zak Plageman, OF/LHP, Patrick Henry, 2019
Plageman is 6-0 tall with a lankier frame. Throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. Long arm action with normal effort. Shoulders are closed and slightly uphill. Landing is slightly closed with an athletic finish. Fastball had slight run, 71-72. Gradual 12/6 curveball that was 59-60. Fading change-up with good armspeed, 66-67.

Rojo Prarie, OF/RHP, Lake Bradddock, 2018
Prarie stands 5-11 and has a lanky, athletic frame. He throws from an over the top slot. Short arm action that is quick, generates velocity with some effort. Shoulders are level and he has good direction. Fastball was heavy, sitting 85-86. Sharp 12/6 curveball that ran 67-69. Real good just below the zone. Straight change-up with good armspeed thrown for strikes at 75-76.

Logan Ransom, LHP, Steward School, 2019
Ransom stands 5-9 and has a strong lower half to his frame. Throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. Long arm action that is quick, throws with high effort. Shoulders are slightly uphill and he stays on line to a square landing with a fall off finish. Fastball had late run, sat 82-83, touched 84. Sharp 1/7 curveball with decent armspeed, 68-72. Good armspeed on change-up that had arm side run, sitting 71-77.

Brett Ritter, RHP, Skyline, 2017
Ritter stands a lanky 6-3. Throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a long, loose arm action that is quick, generating velocity with easy effort. Tall and fall delivery with shoulders that are uphill and closed as he strides to a closed landing with an athletic finish. Fastball had heavy run and sink, sitting 81-83. Gradual 10/4 slider with good armspeed that he threw for strikes at 69. Change-up had fading action, running 75-76.

Braden Seay, RHP, Patriot, 2017
Seay stands 5-11 and has an athletic frame. Throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a smooth drop and drive delivery. Long, loose arm action that is quick and he generates velocity with normal effort. Shoulders are slightly uphill and slightly closed as he strides out on line to a square landing with an athletic finish. Fastball say 79-80, touching 83 once, with some run and downward plane. Curveball had sharp 11/5 break with decent armspeed, running 67-69. Change-up was thrown with good armspeed and arm side run, sitting 77-78. Commanded all three pitches well.

Grayson Sims, RHP/C, North Stafford, 2018
Sims stands 5-9 and has an athletic frame with a strong lower half. On the mound, throws from over the top slot with all and fall delivery. Short arm action that is quick generates velocity with some effort. Slightly uphill shoulders and stride on line to square landing with athletic finish. Fastball was 77-78 and was thrown for strikes. Sharp 12/6 curveball with good armspeed that was 68. Sinking change-up ran 70-72 with decent armspeed.

Danny Singleton, 3B/RHP, Highland School, 2017
Singleton stands 6-2 with an athletic frame. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. Short, loose arm action generates velocity with regular effort. Shoulders are uphill and he strides out on line to a square landing with a slight fall off finish. Fastball was thrown for strikes with run, sitting 77-79. Gradual 11/5 curveball was 67-68. Straight change-up was thrown with decent armspeed, running 72-73.

Dillon Sisk, LHP/OF, Skyline, 2018
Sisk is 5-10 and has a lanky frame. Throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a smooth drop and drive delivery. Short, quick arm action generates velocity with slightly more than normal effort. Shoulders slightly uphill and closed as he strides on line to a square landing with athletic finish. Fastball had plane and slight run to it, sitting 80-83 while touching 84. Curveball had mostly gradual 1/7 break, flashing sharper when thrown harder. Decent armspeed running 63-66. Sinking change-up with decent armspeed running 73-75.

Will Sokol, RHP/1B, Loudoun County, 2017
Sokol stands 6-5 and has a lanky athletic frame. He throws from a sidearm slot with a drop and drive delivery. Long arm action that generates velocity with normal effort. Stride is on line to a slightly closed landing with an athletic finish. Fastball had heavy run, sitting 71-73. Slider had late 10/4 break, running 67-69. Change-up had run, was 66-69.

Timmy Stephan, RHP/2B, Highland School, 2017
Stephan is 6-0 tall and has a lanky, athletic frame. Throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. Loose, quick arm action generates velocity with some effort. Shoulders are closed and slightly uphill. Lands closed with a fall off finish. Fastball had late run, sitting 81-84 and touching 85. Sharp 10/4 slider with good armspeed, running 72-74. Fading change-up with good armspeed that was 77-78. Very good command of his fastball/slider combination.

Garrett Thomas, RHP, Patriot, 2018
Thomas is 5-9 and has a lanky frame. Throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a smooth drop and drive delivery. Short arm action that generates velocity with normal effort. Shoulders are uphill and closed and he strides out on line to a square landing with a fall off finish. Fastball has run to it, sitting 74-75. 12/6 curveball with decent armspeed, sitting 63-66. Change-up has armside run and decent armspeed, sitting 66-68. Commanded all three pitches well.
