TPG West: Pitcher Breakdown

On June 23, over 70 players from all corners of the Commonwealth took part in our Top Prospect Games West. We begin our detailed breakdown of those players today with the pitchers:

Jake Barker OF / RHP / Waynesboro, VA / 2022

Barker is 5-11 with a lankier athletic frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He throws from a lower three-quarters arm slot, longer loose arm action and normal effort to his delivery. Shoulders are level and closed, lands square with an athletic finish. Fastball was 78-82, touching 83, with some late cut to it. Curveball had good armspeed and was 65-68 with sharp 11/5 break. Showed ability to throw both for strikes.

Seth Brooks RHP / OF / Glen Allen, VA / 2022

Brooks is 6-1 with an athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, short free arm action and normal effort to his delivery. Shoulders are uphill and closed, lands square with a slight fall-off finish. Fastball was 77-82, with downward plane and late run to armside. Curveball had good armspeed and was 65-68 with sharp 11/5 break. Change-up was 69-70 with good armspeed and hard late fade. Throws all three for strikes.

Ethan Burgreen SS / RHP / Millbrook , VA / 2022

Burgreen is 6-2 with a lanky frame that has a lot of of projection left to it. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, longer loose quick arm action and normal effort to his delivery. Shoulders are uphill and closed, lands slightly closed with an athletic finish. Fastball was 75-77, touching 79, with some late sink and a touch of run to armside. Curveball had some armspeed and was 62-64 with gradual 12/6 break. Change-up was 64-66 with some armspeed and heavy sink. Feel for the strike zone.

Noah Burtner RHP / 3B / Spotswood, VA / 2022

Burtner is 5-11 with an athletic frame that has some strength to it. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, short free arm action and normal effort to his delivery. Shoulders are uphill and closed, lands closed with a slight fall-off finish. Fastball was 77-80, with some late cut to it when thrown to gloveside and run when thrown to armside. Curveball had good armspeed and was 66-68 with sharp 11/5 break. Change-up was 73-74 with good armspeed and some run to it. Threw strikes to both sides of the plate.

Will Coleman SS / RHP / Albemarle , VA / 2023

Coleman is 5-11 with a lanky frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot, short free arm action and normal effort to his delivery. Drop and drive delivery, shoulders are uphill and closed, lands closed with a fall-off finish. Fastball was 75-78, touching 80, with some late sink. Curveball had some armspeed and was 65-68 with gradual 12/6 break and some shape to it. Change-up was 71-73 with good armspeed and some fade.

Reid Driskill RHP / 3B / Brookville, VA / 2022

Driskill is 6-2 with a very lanky frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, longer free arm action and normal effort to his delivery. Shoulders are uphill and closed, lands closed with an athletic finish and some recoil. Fastball was 71-75, touching 76, with some cut to it. Curveball had some armspeed and was 61-68 with late hard 10/4 break and some shape to it, pitch bit harder at higher end of the velo range. Change-up was 67-68 with good armspeed and some fade.

Brandon Cole Elrod 3B / RHP / Hanover , VA / 2023

Elrod is 6-3 with an athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot, short loose arm action and some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are level and closed, lands closed with a fall off finish and some recoil. Fastball was 77-82, touching 83, with hard late run to it. Curveball had good armspeed and was 64-66 with sharp 11/5 break and good shape to it. Change-up was 67-68 with good armspeed and some fade. Showed ability to throw fastball to both sides of plate and throw curve for strike or to draw a swing.

Bryce Grizzard 3B / RHP / Cosby, VA / 2023

Grizzard is 6-1 with an athletic frame that has some strength present and some projection left to it. He throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, longer free arm action and normal effort to his delivery. Shoulders are level and closed, lands closed with a fall off finish. Fastball was 70-74, touching 75, with cut to it. Curveball had good armspeed and was 64-65 with sharp 10/4 break to it. Change-up was 69-71 with good armspeed and some run.

Connor Handy RHP / 1B / Benedictine, VA / 2021

Handy is 6-5 with an athletic frame that has some strength present and some projection left to it. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot, short loose quick arm action and some effort to his delivery. Drop and drive delivery, shoulders are slightly uphill and closed, lands closed with an athletic finish. Fastball was 82-85, touching 86, with armside run. Curveball had good armspeed and was 68-71 with sharp 11/5 break to it, good shape. Change-up was 77-80 with good armspeed and some run. Showed ability to move the fastball all around the zone.

Zach Herzog SS / OF / Woodberry Forest School, VA / 2023

Herzog is 5-9 with a lankier athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot, short loose arm action and some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are level and closed, lands closed with a fall-off finish and some recoil. Fastball was 76-79, with late hard armside run. Curveball had good armspeed and was 70-72 with sharp hard 11/5 break to it, good shape and chance to be a swing and miss pitch.

Bailey Hill RHP / 2B / Highland, VA / 2023

Hill is 5-9 with a lanky frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He throws from a higher three-quarters arm slot, short free arm action and higher effort to his delivery. Shoulders are level and on line, lands open with a fall-off finish. Fastball was 74-76, touching 77, with heavy armside run that gets some depth as well. Curveball had good armspeed and was 64-66 with sharp hard 11/5 break to it, has some shape and chance to be a swing and miss pitch as it tightens.

Andrew Huffmyer LHP / 1B / Western Albemarle , VA / 2024

Huffmyer is 5-10 with an athletic frame that has some strength in the lower half and some projection left to it. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, short free arm action and some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are level and on line, lands square with an athletic finish. Fastball was 66-69, with some armside run. Curveball had some armspeed and was 58-59 with gradual late 1/7 break to it. Change-up was had some armspeed and was 61-62 with some sink.

Jerrod Jenkins C / RHP / Millbrook , VA / 2022

Jenkins is 6-3 with an athletic frame that has some strength on it and some projection left to it. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, short loose quick arm action and normal effort to his delivery. Shoulders are uphill and closed, lands closed with an athletic finish. Fastball was 82-84, touching 85, with downward angle and some late run. Curveball had good armspeed and was 69-72 with sharp hard 11/5 break to it. Change-up was had good armspeed and was 77-80 with some late sink.

Charlie Krebs 1B / RHP / Woodgrove, VA / 2023

Krebs is 6-0 with an athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot, short loose very quick arm action and normal effort to his delivery. Shoulders are uphill and closed, lands closed with a fall off finish. Fastball was 84-86, touching 87, with downward angle and boring action to armside. Curveball had good armspeed and was 70-72 with sharp hard 11/5 break to it, pitch flashes swing and miss. Curveball tunnels well off of fastball.

Hunter Krycinski RHP / 3B / Liberty Christian, VA / 2022

Krycinski is 6-2 with an athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, short free arm action and normal effort to his delivery. Shoulders are uphill and on line, lands open with an athletic finish. Fastball was 76-78, with downward angle and some late run. Curveball had some armspeed and was 64-67 with sharp 11/5 break to it.

James McGrady SS / 3B / Greenbrier Christian Academy, VA / 2021

McGrady is 6-0 with an athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot, short loose arm action and some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are level and closed, lands slightly closed with an athletic finish. Fastball was 78-81, with some late run. Curveball had some armspeed and was 65-68 with sharp 11/5 break to it. Change-up was 73-75 with good armspeed and hard fade.

Jackson Murphy C / RHP / Briar Woods, VA / 2021

Murphy is 6-0 with an athletic frame that has some strength in the lower half and some projection left to it. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, short free arm action and normal effort to his drop and drive delivery. Shoulders are level and closed, lands slightly closed with a slight fall off finish. Fastball was 75-78, with some late boring action to armside. Curveball had good armspeed and was 66-69 with sharp 11/5 break to it. Cutter was 70-71 with some late 10/4 bite to it.

Carson Peggins 1B / 3B / Lord Botetourt, VA / 2021

Peggins is 6-5 with a strong frame. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot, shorter loose arm action and easier effort to his delivery. Shoulders are level and slightly closed, lands square with an athletic finish. Fastball was 78-82, with some hard late run to armside. Curveball had some armspeed and was 70-71 with hard 10/4 break to it. Showed a change-up in warm-ups with good armspeed and heavy fade.

Dillon Stowers 3B / RHP / Liberty Christian Academy, VA / 2022

Stowers is 6-3 with a strong athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He throws from a lower three-quarters arm slot, short loose quick arm action and normal effort to his delivery. Shoulders are slightly uphill and closed, lands closed with an athletic finish with some recoil. Fastball was 82-85, touching 87, with some late run to armside that has a bit of depth. Curveball had some armspeed and was 70-72 with late sharp 11/5 break to it. Change-up was 71-72 with good armspeed and heavy fade.

Everett Vaughan RHP / OF / Cosby, VA / 2021

Vaughan is a High Point commit and is 6-3 with a lankier athletic frame that has some strength in the lower half and plenty of projection left to it. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot, longer loose lightning quick arm action and some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are uphill and closed, lands square with an athletic finish. Fastball was 86-88, touching 89, with some late sink. Curveball had good armspeed and was 74-78 with late hard 10/4 break to it. Change-up was 78-81 with good armspeed and fade.
