Top Prospect Games II: MIF Analysis

In August, over 50 players from Virginia, DC, and neighboring states descended on Old Dominion University for the Top Prospect II Games. These players were from the Class of 2020, 2021, and 2022. Today we continue our in-depth analysis of the players who took part in that event with the middle infielders.

 

 

Kody Abrisz SS / 2B / Menchville, VA / 2020

Abrisz is 5-8 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open athletic stance, short stride on line, short load back with slight wrap, hips rotate completely with some violence, and he maintains some balance during his swing. Short to ball, showed good approach working gap to gap, level line drive swing, gets uphill on his extension generating carry, exit velocity was 78. At short, active clean feet, rounds ball and fields with soft quick hands. Works through ball to a quick clean exchange. Throws from a three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 82.

 

 

Vincent Bashara RHP / 2B / Maury, VA / 2020

Bashara is 5-10 with a lankier athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the left side from an athletic stance, strides on line, short load back, hips rotate completely, some balance to swing. Takes barrel straight to ball, slightly uphill swing path gets more uphill to pull side, showed good approach working primarily gap to gap, exit velocity was 78. At short, gets body behind ball and fields with above average hands and a wider base. Works through ball to a clean exchange, throws from low three quarters arm slot, position velocity was 71.

 

 

Griffin Boone SS / 2B / Forest Park, VA / 2020

Boone is 5-11 with a lankier athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open upright athletic stance, short stride on line, short load back, hips rotate completely with some violence, and he maintains some balance during his swing. Very short and quick to ball, showed good approach working gap to gap, slightly uphill line drive swing, strong at contact point, has chance to add power as he adds strength, exit velocity was 82. At short, active quick clean feet, rounds ball and fields with soft quick hands and a good wide base. Works through ball to a quick clean exchange. Throws from a three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 81.

 

 

Gavin Collins SS / 3B / Centreville, VA / 2020

Collins is 5-9 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance, short stride on line, short load back, hips rotate completely with violence, and he maintains good balance during his swing. Very short and quick to ball, showed pull approach, uphill swing path, good extension through ball, strong at contact point, has power potential, exit velocity was 88. At short, quick clean feet, rounds ball and fields with soft hands and a good wide base. Works through ball to a quick clean exchange. Throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 83.

 

 

Jesus Del Valle SS / OF / TC Williams, VA / 2021

Del Valle is 6-0 with a lanky frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from an open athletic stance, strides on line, short load back to slight wrap, hips rotate completely, he maintains some balance during his swing. Short to ball, showed good approach working gap to gap, slightly uphill swing path, line drive swing, some strength at contact point, has power potential as he gets stronger, exit velocity was 80. At short, clean feet, rounds ball and fields with above average hands and a wider base. Works through ball to a clean exchange. Throws from a lower three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 74.

 

 

Kyle Edwards SS / OF / Cape Henry , VA / 2021

Edwards is 5-10 with a lanky frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance, short leg kick stride on line, smooth load back, hips rotate completely, he maintains some balance during his swing. Showed a pull approach, uphill swing path, line drive swing with extension through the ball, has power potential as he gets stronger, exit velocity was 80. Jackson Foreman 2B / SS / Brooke Point, VA / 2020

Foreman is 5-10 with a lanky frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the left side from an upright open balanced stance, strides on line, short load back, hips rotate completely, he maintains good balance during his swing. Very short and quick to the ball, showed good approach using whole field, level line drive swing, showed some barrel awareness, exit velocity was 82. At short, quick feet, gets behind ball and fields with above average hands and a good wide base. Works through ball to a clean exchange. Gunn is 6-0 with a lanky athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. Ryan Lattomus 2B / 3B / Westfield, VA / 2020

Lattomus is 5-9 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. Joe Suarez 2B / SS / Bishop O'Connell, VA / 2020

Suarez is 5-7 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. Hits from the right side from an upright open balanced stance, strides slightly closed, loads back, hips rotate completely with some explosion, he maintains good balance during his swing. Quick to the ball, pull approach with uphill swing path, some strength at contact and extension through the ball, exit velocity was 82. At short, rounds ball some and fields with above average hands.
