VA/DC State Games

Gunn is 6-2 with a lankier athletic frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot, very short loose quick arm action and some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are uphill and closed, lands square with an athletic finish. Fastball was 82-84, touching 85, with hard late armside run. Slider had good armspeed and was 75-78 with hard 10/4 break to it, flashed swing and miss and tunnels well off of fastball.

Preseason All-State II

Gunn is 6-2 with a strong frame. He hits from the right side from a slightly open athletic stance, short stride on line, slight load down. Hips rotate completely with violence and he maintains good lower half balance. Keeps hands inside, short and quick to the ball, slightly uphill swing with some strength at contact, exit velocity was 89. In the infield, rounds ball and fields with a wider base and soft hands. Quick clean exchange, throws from a three-quarters slot with a short loose arm action, velocity was 89. Ran a 4.26 home to first. On the mound, throws from a three-quarters arm slot, short loose arm action that is very quick, some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are uphill and closed, lands closed with an athletic finish. Fastball was 85-88, with late hard run to armside. Curveball had good armspeed and and late hard 11/5 break at 74-76. Change-up had some armspeed and was 76-77 with some late run to it.

Mid-Atlantic Summer Championships

Athletic projectable frame at 6-foot, 160-pounds. Gunn came on in relief for the Breeze in their second game. Had some command issues at times on the day, but was able to battle through it for his short relief work. Fastball showed some ASR at times while sitting 81-84 and topped at 85 with some life through the zone. Slider had tight 11/5 shape and is thrown with intent. The off speed is still a work in progress, but shows some promise.

Gunn is 6-1 with a lankier athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open balanced athletic stance, short leg kick stride on line, smooth load down. Hips rotate completely with violence and he maintains good lower half balance. Keeps hands inside, quick and short to the ball, strong at contact point with some extension through the ball. Slightly uphill line drive swing, showed good approach working gap to gap, has some loft built into swing and ball carries in the gaps, exit velocity was 87. In the infield, good feet, rounds ball and fields with a good wide base and soft hands. Works through ball to a quick clean exchange, throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a short loose quick arm action, infield velocity was 88. Ran a 7.30 60 yard dash.

VA/DC Scout Blog

Gunn is a plus defender with arm strength to play the left side. Has a good understanding of positioning and angles to make up for not having elite foot speed. Arm accuracy can be an issue at times, but it seems like it frequents when he has extra time and arm gets a little longer. Throws well on the run and with slower developing plays, where it requires him to get rid of it quickly. At the plate the swing is a work in progress, but shows gap to gap power potential. Has an advanced approach at the plate and shows distinct adjustments in a two strike approach.

PreSeason All-State I

Upright stance starting slightly open with a small pickup to put down landing on line. Hands load back easy to separation and swing shows some strength and quickness getting to the zone. High finish with some explosion in the hips and uses the lower half well. Exit velocity was 86 mph and swing showed some gap to gap tendencies with power potential. Actions stand out defensively as Gunn works outside the ball well with active feet and gains ground on the ball with solid glove presentation. Soft hands to a clean centered exchange. Arm action is short and quick and throws from a low three quarter arm slot at 85 mph across the infield. Shows ability to make all necessary plays in the infield and throws from multiple angles with ease. Home-1st time was 4.31.

Gunn is 6-0 with a lanky athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance, strides on line, short load back, violent hips rotate completely, he maintains some balance during his swing. Very short and quick to the ball, showed good approach using whole field, slightly uphill line drive swing, some strength at contact, quick bat with power potential, exit velocity was 84. At short, clean feet, rounds ball and fields with above average hands and a good wide base. Works through ball to a clean exchange. Throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 85.
