Unsigned Senior Games Analysis: Catchers

On Wednesday August 9, PBR VA/DC hosted the Unsigned Senior Games at Virginia Sports Complex in Central Virginia. Over 60 players from all corners of the Commonwealth showcased in front of college coaches and the PBR VA/DC staff at the event and had their videos and stats taken before taking part in a game. We begin our analysis of the event with our breakdown of the catchers: 

Peter Cocolis Robinson
Cocolis is 6-0 and hits from the right side from a crouched athletic stance. Short stride on line, smooth load back, explosive lower half with some balance to his swing. Quick to ball, works uphill through it with extension. Pull fly ball approach with some barrel awareness and power potential, exit velocity 89. Behind the plate, quick exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action. Pop times 1.97-2.08 with accuracy to his throws, position velocity was 74. Athletic footwork, ran a 7.34 60 yard dash.

Chance Davis Fort Chiswell
Davis is 5-10 with a lankier athletic frame, he hits from the right side from a closed athletic stance. Short leg kick stride on line and smooth load down, some rhythm to his swing. Some hip explosion and balance to his swing. Level line drive swing, high barrel awareness, good approach using whole field, exit velocity was 83. At short, gets behind ball to field it and rounds ball well. Average hands, clean exchange, throws from a lower three-quarters arm slot, shortstop velocity was 79. Behind the plate, quick clean exchange, throws from three-quarters arm slot position velocity was 77. Pop times were 1.99-2.02 and he had some accuracy to his throws. Ran a 7.22 60 yard dash.

Hunter Fasold Loudoun Valley
Fasold is 6-0 with an athletic frame and hits from the right side from an open upright stance. Short leg kick stride, short load back. Some hip explosion and balance to swing. Works slightly uphill, pull approach, quick through the zone, exit velocity was 79. Behind the plate, gains ground on exchange, throws from a short arm action from a three-quarters arm slot. Position velocity was 69, pop times were 2.25-2.40. Ran a 7.06 60 yard dash.

Alexander Petroka Albemarle
Petroka is 6-1 with a lankier athletic frame, hits from the left side from an open stance. Short leg kick stride on line, minimal load back slight wrap, some rhythm to his swing. Explosive lower half and some balance to swing. Quick to the ball, works slightly uphill, barrels ball consistently and works gap to gap, some gap power potential, exit velocity was 82. Behind the plate, quick clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, catcher velocity was 69, pop times 2.16-2.41. Ran a 7.38 60 yard dash.

Trevor Saniano Indian River
Saniano is 5-9 with a strong frame and a strong lower half, hits from the right side from an upright balanced stance. Short leg kick stride on line forward, wraps on load. Explosive lower half and some balance to his swing. Short to ball with extension through it, quick bat with power potential, exit velocity was 89. Slight pull approach. Behind plate, gains ground on exchange, throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action and a quick release. Pop times 2.05-2.38, catcher velocity was 76.

Grayson Sims North Stafford
Sims is 5-10 with a strong lower half, hits from the left side from an open upright stance. Leg kick stride, smooth load back, some rhythm to swing. Explosive lower half and some balance to swing. Quick to the ball, works slightly uphill with a pull approach and quick bat, extension through the ball, exit velocity was 85. Behind the plate, quick clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action. Pop times were 2.00-2.07 and throws had some accuracy, position velocity was 73.

Hunter Steel Woodbridge
Steel is 5-11 with a strong lower half, hits from the right side from an upright slightly open stance. Short stride on line, smooth load back, explosive lower half and good balance throughout swing. Quick to ball, works slightly uphill, pull approach, exit velocity was 74. Behind the plate, quiet body while receiving. Quick exchange, short high three-quarters arm action, some accuracy to throws. Catcher velocity was 69, pop times were 2.12-2.22.

Parker Wilburn Trinity Episcopal
Wilburn is 6-1 with an athletic frame and hits from the right side from and open athletic stance. Short stride on line, smooth load back, slight wrap, good rhythm to swing. Good lower half and good balance to swing. Quick to ball, works uphill through it with extension, shows barrel awareness and good approach, works gap to gap with some pop to pull side, exit velocity was 92. Behind the plate, clean exchange, throws from a three-quarters arm slot, short arm action. Position velocity was 70 and pop times were 2.15-2.25. 60 yard dash was 7.19.

Ethan Williams Cosby (Harford CC)
Williams is 6-0 and has an athletic frame with a strong lower half. Switch hitter, hits from the right side from a slightly open athletic stance, short stride on line, smooth load back some rhythm to swing. Explosive lower half and some balance to swing. Quick to ball, short path, works uphill with a pull fly ball approach and power, exit velocity was 92. From the left side, open stance, strides slightly closed. Some hip explosion and balance to his swing. Short to ball, works uphill through it with extension, exit velocity was 86. At third, showed a strong arm across the infield at 89. Behind the plate, quick clean exchange, short arm action from a high three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 80 and pop times were 1.94-2.02, some accuracy to his throws. Ran a 7.25 60 yard dash.
