Every Friday we recap all commitments that were made throughout our coverage area. If we missed you or someone that you know is not on the Commitment List, let us know by filling out our Commitment Form.

Drew Calohan, LHP/1B, Rustburg, 2016
Calohan committed to Ferrum. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. Some effort, quick, short arm action. Shoulders uphill and closed. Slightly closed landing with an athletic finish. Fastball has plane and late run, sitting 81-84 and touching 85. Change-up had good arm speed and run, sitting 74-75. Sharp 1/7 curveball ran 69-73. At the plate, hits from the left side with a pull approach. Above average bat speed and doubles power. Decent speed on the bases and a good baserunner.

Eli Ottinger
Eli Ottinger, RHP, Benedictine, 2017
Ottinger committed to James Madison. Ottinger has an athletic, projectable frame and throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a smooth drop and drive delivery. He has a short arm action and a quick arm that generates velocity with regular effort. His shoulders are closed and slightly uphill as he strides out to a square landing before falling off a bit as he finishes. Ottinger’s fastball sat 81-83, touching 84 at the Fall Prospect Games in October, with slight sink and run and good plane to it. His curveball had sharp 11/5 action and was thrown with good armspeed, running 68-72. His curveball was much better at the higher end of its velocity range and he showed good command of both of his pitches.

Will Schroeder, SS/RHP, Loudoun County, 2018
Schroeder committed to North Carolina. Schroeder has a projectable, athletic 6-0 frame. On the mound, he throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a smooth drop and drive delivery. He has a short, loose arm action that is quick and generates velocity with some effort. His shoulders are closed and slightly downhill as he strides out to a square landing and finishing athletically with a recoil. In a March start, Schroeder’s fastball sat 79-83 in the outing, touching 84 in the first inning. He had some plane and late run to it. He threw a fading change-up that ran 67-70. His 12/6 curveball had gradual break and was 62-66. He also dropped down to throw a sweeping slider that was 67-71. He has a very good mound presence and can field his position. At the plate, Schroeder hits from the right side from an athletic stance. He has a leg kick stride and a smooth load back into a slight arm bar. He has an explosive lower half and maintains balance throughout his swing. He has very fast hands and good bat speed with a short path to the ball and good extension through it. He showed a good approach, hitting the ball where it was thrown and using the middle of the field in the game. He has gap power with the potential for much more as he develops. He has good athleticism and decent speed, running a 4.43 from the right side.

Toma Shigaki-Than
Toma Shigaki-Than, RHP, Oakton, 2017
Toma committed to Duke. Shigaki-Than is an athletic right hander that throws from a high three-quarter arm slot with a long, loose, lightning quick arm that allows him to generate velocity with some effort. He has a drop and drive delivery and his shoulders are closed and uphill as he strides out to a square landing before recoiling as he finishes. Shigaki-Than’s fastball sat 84-86 and touched 87 in an April outing with some plane and a bit of late run. His best pitch is easily his sharp, power, 12/6 breaking curveball that ran 74-77 and is thrown with full armspeed. He also throws a sinking change-up with good armspeed.

Kris Artis, RHP, Granby, 2018
Artis committed to Old Dominion

Evan Lester, LHP/OF, Thomas Dale, 2016
Lester committed to Hampden-Sydney
