Nansemond River outfielder and 2014 Top Prospect Games participant Wil Davis has committed to Anderson University in the fall of 2016. Davis is the fourth member of the Warriors’ Class of 2016 to commit to play baseball after graduation, joining Michael Blanchard (RHP, Old Dominion), Matthew Holt (RHP, LaSalle), and Dion Jordan (OF, Norfolk State). Nansemond River finished the season ranked No. 19 in the Prep Baseball Report Virginia/DC Power 25, and the Warriors have a strong core of seniors that will make them a dangerous team again in 2016.

At the Top Prospect Showcase South in June, Davis hit from a balanced and athletic stance that was slightly crouched. He had a fluid rhythm to his swing with a smooth load back and a stride that stays on line. He maintained average balance throughout his swing and his lower half exploded to the baseball. He had fast hands and a bat exit velocity of 83 mph. He has a short, level swing with good extension and should be a consistent line drive hitter that can find the gaps. In the outfield, Davis threw from a high three-quarters arm slot that was long and loose and his throws were accurate. His positional velocity was 81 mph and his throws had some carry. Davis showed average hands with fluid footwork and played through the ball with quick, clean exchanges.

When he arrives at Anderson, Davis should be able to help immediately as a good defensive option in the outfield or as a bat off of the bench. As his career progresses, Davis has the potential to develop into a good defensive corner outfielder who will hit for a high average with some doubles mixed in.
