No. 13 Coleman Stays Undefeated With Win Over Fox Valley Lutheran

COLEMAN, Wis.—The Coleman Cougars moved one step closer to an undefeated regular season with a 7-3 non-conference win over Fox Valley Lutheran on Monday.

It looked as if Coleman was going to win via a blowout early on in the game, but the Foxes rallied to make a game out of it.

In the bottom of the first inning, the Cougars exploded out of the gates for six runs. Austin Tachick, Cole Woulf, and Hunter Stodola all had RBI singles. Austin Marquardt added a bases-loaded walk, Jacob Steeno hit a sacrifice fly and Nick Sailer hit an RBI double.

The Foxes clawed back in the top of the third inning for three runs of their own. Jared Kohlnetz hit an RBI double over the head of the Coleman leftfielder to score two runs. Isaac Gerhardt scored on a wild pitch later in the frame to make the score 6-3.

Coleman brought in ace Matt Osterberg to see out the rest of the game beginning in the top of the fourth. The Foxes’ bats weren’t silenced, but they weren’t able to push any runs across.

The Cougars got an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth when Austin Tachick hit an RBI infield single.

Fox Valley Lutheran got at least one runner on base in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings, but they failed to score on Osterberg.

Coleman starter Hunter Stodola pitched three innings and allowed three runs on three hits, five walks and four strikeouts. Osterberg went the final four innings and allowed no runs on five hits, a walk and six strikeouts.

Stephen Bachman took the loss for FVL. He allowed six runs in three innings pitched. He surrendered eight hits and struck out one.

Sailer led the Coleman offense with a 3-for-4 performance with an RBI. Blake Margis went 2-for-3 for the Cougars.

Colton Schild, Kaz Vanasten and Kohlnetz all had two hits for Fox Valley Lutheran.

The Cougars moved to 22-0 with the win. Their final regular season game is at Freedom this Thursday.
