Scouting Supervisor - Wisconsin/Illinois

The 2018 spring high school season in Wisconsin generated some incredible individual moments and performances throughout all corners of the state. As the spring high school season comes to a close, Prep Baseball Report is excited to announce one player who emerged ahead of the competition at all levels in the state of Wisconsin. This player has been selected not only for their outstanding statistical numbers, but also for their overall effect on their high school program.

Jack Washburn

Jack WashburnWashburn, a junior right-handed pitcher, has not only put up incredible numbers on the mound and at the plate, but has helped to lead Webster to a 21-3 record and a birth into the D3 State Semifinals the week of June 12.

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound righty is committed to pitch at Oregon State and has posted an 8-1 record on the mound with a 0.66 ERA over 42.2 innings pitched where he struck out more than two an inning for a total of 87. Of his seven starts on the year he has two complete game shutouts, including a no-hitter, part of a streak that saw Webster HS rattle off 12 shutouts in a row. On top of his lofty pitching stats, Washburn did it with the bat as well, to a tune of .446 with 10 HR, and 10 doubles while driving in 52 and producing an OPS of 1.518.

Washburn will have at least one more shot to add to his totals as Webster will be playing in the state semifinals on Wednesday, June 13.

Washburn’s all-around performance, as well as the impact he has had on Webster High School, has earned him the 2018 Prep Baseball Report Wisconsin State Player of the Year honors.

Washburn has been selected by Wisconsin Scouting Director Steve Nielsen and the team of area scouts who covered the high school baseball season throughout the spring. The Prep Baseball Report staff has been diligently scouting and covering baseball games at baseball diamonds across the state this spring to bring parents, athletes and fans the most comprehensive coverage of amateur baseball across the United States. The dedication and coverage allow Prep Baseball Report a credible way to identify the top athletes each year who best represent the state of Wisconsin.
