Underclass Trials: Infield Analysis

The Underclass Trails took place on June 22nd at the Rock in Franklin, WI. Today we continue the analysis with the infielders. Evan Albrecht stood out among the infielders with solid defensive tools and an average run tool. Let's take a look at the infielders.

Evan Albrecht, MIF, West Bend West, 2018
5-foot-9, 145-pound, athletic, middle infielder. Defensively, soft hands, cushions the baseball, fluid footwork, clean exchanges, athletic actions, plays through the baseball, natural infield instincts. Short, high ¾ slot; throws clocked at 82 mph with carry. Offensively, right-handed hitter, balanced setup, short stride, maintains balance through the zone, slight uphill bat path; exit velocity registered at 86 mph. Also, ran a 7.07 laser timed 60.
Trevor Benz, C/3B, Hale, 2018
5-foot-9, 186-pound, think bodied prospect. Offensively, open stance, leg kick timing mechanism. Flashed bat speed, pull side approach; exit velocity clocked at 84 mph. Behind the plate, throws from an over the top slot, short arm action, registered throws at 70 mph with pop times ranging between 2.11-2.20. Across the diamond, clocked in throws at 71 mph. Also, ran a 8.07 laser timed 60.
Tyler Brandenburg, RHP/3B, Lake Country Lutheran, 2019
6-foot-2, 202-pound right-handed hitting RHP/3B with a strong frame. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a long, loose arm action. Tall at balance point loading up on backside before coming to the plate. Works in line with home plate with some rhythm. Fastball sat 79 mph. Curveball has slurve action at 69-71 mph with tight rotation. Fastball arm speed on changeup at 71-72 mph. Projects well on the mound. At the plate hits from a tall setup with a toe tap stride and average balance. Power hitter with a long, slightly uphill path. Showed strength thru contact with 91 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 8.00. Defensively has a long arm action from a high ¾ slot. Accurate throws with carry throwing 78 mph across the infield. Plays thru the ball with slower actions and soft hands.
Stevie Diderrich, C/INF, Oconomowoc, 2018
5-foot-7, 150-pound, strong bodied prospect. Offensively, right-handed hitter, hits from a tall, open setup, back side load, maintains balance through the hitting zone, fluid rhythm; exit velocity clocked at 83 mph, but seen up to 91 mph at prior events. In the field, soft hands, athletic actions, plays through the baseball. Loose, high ¾ slot, accurate throws with carry. Clocked at 79 mph across the diamond. Behind the plate, registered throws to second at 72 mph and pop times between 2.08-2.13. Also, ran a 7.63 laser timed 60.
Nathan Ebersole, SS/RHP, Whitefish Bay, 2019
5-foot-6, 130-pound two-way prospect. Offensively, right-handed hitter, balanced, athletic setup, back side load, short stride, maintains balance through the hitting zone. Line drive approach, fluid rhythm; exit velocity clocked at 75 mph. Defensively, fluid footwork, athletic actions plays through the baseball. Over the top slot, short arm action; registered throws at 72 mph across the diamond. Also, ran a 7.61 laser timed 60. On the mound, high ¾ slot, short arm action, easy effort. Tall and fall delivery style, smooth rhythm, stays in line, lands square, athletic finish. Fastball clocked between 71-73, topped 74 mph. Curveball, 11/5 shape, sat between 62-65 mph. Changeup, fastball arm speed, registered between 66-70 mph.
Garrison Ferone, INF, Shorewood, 2018
5-foot-7, 130- pound, switch hitting middle infielder. Defensively, fluid footwork, athletic actions, plays through the baseball. ¾ arm slot, loose arm action; clocked at 75 mph across the diamond. Offensively, balanced setup from both sides, more pop from the left side; exit velocity registered 76 mph from the left side and 71 mph from the right. Also, ran a 7.69 laser timed 60.
Braedon Franz, SS/RHP, Stevens Point, 2019
5-foot-5, 135-pound left-handed hitting SS/RHP. At the plate hits from an open, upright stance with a short stride and average balance. Short uphill swing path, looks to lift. 75 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.80. Defensively has a short arm action from an over the top slot. Wind up and throw, threw 72 mph across the infield. Showed upside on the mound working from an over the top arm angle with a short, quick arm action. Drop and drive, uptempo delivery working in line with home plate. Fastball was straight at 79-82 mph. Curveball has 11-5 shape with sharp breaking action at 66-69 mph. Slows arm on changeup and get underneath it at 66-68 mph. Also threw a knuckleball at 59-64 mph. Good mound presence with dynamic stuff.
Trey Hunt, INF/RHP, Fennimore, 2018
5-foot-9, 165-pound, strong, two-way prospect. Offensively, right-handed hitter, balanced setup, bat speed, short bat path; exit velocity registered at 86 mph. Defensively, soft hands, athletic actions. Short, loose, high ¾ arm, flashed accuracy across the diamond; throws clocked at 79 mph. Also, ran a 7.27 laser timed 60. On the mound, over the top arm slot, quick, short arm action with regular effort. Smooth, rhythmic, tall and fall delivery, stays in line with plate, lands square and finishes athletically. Feel for three pitches. Fastball, slight run, sat 80-81, topped 82 mph. Curveball, 11/5 shape, shape, tight, late action, fastball arm speed, sat 70-71 mph. Changeup, fast ball arm speed, sink and fade, clocked at 70-73 mph.
Jackson Jommen, 1B, West Bend East, 2018
6-foot, 235-pound right-handed hitting first baseman. Offensively hits from an open stance with a heel lift stride and collapse on the backside. Long, level swing path with average bat speed. Showed strength thru contact with 84 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 8.04. Defensively has a short arm action from a high ¾ arm slot. Threw 64 mph across the infield.
Nolan Kelliher, MIF/RHP, Middleton, 2018
5-foot-11, 165-pound, athletic, lanky, two-way prospect. Offensively, open setup, short stride, repeats swing, maintains balance. Flashed bat speed, short bat path, line drive approach; exit velocity clocked at 86 mph. Defensively, fluid footwork, short, over the top, arm action; clocked at 79 mph across the diamond. Also, ran a 7.24 laser timed 60. On the mound, high ¾ window, short arm action with regular effort. Tall and fall delivery, stays in line with plate, lands square, finishes athletically. Fastball, sat 75-75, topped 78 mph. Curveball, 11/5 shape, sat 61-64 mph. Changeup, fastball arm speed, fade, down in the zone, sat 66-67 mph.
Zachary Lutz, LHP/1B, Hartford Union, 2018
6-foot-0, 160-pound, two-way prospect. Offensively, balanced setup, short stride. Long, uphill bat path, pull side approach, flashed fluidity; exit velocity clocked at 83 mph. Defensively, high ¾ slot, short, loose arm action; throws registered at 72 mph across the diamond. Also, ran a 7.05 laser timed 60. On the mound, strike thrower, high ¾ slot, long, loose arm action with regular effort. Stays tall, balanced, smooth, tall and fall delivery, stays in line, lands square and finishes athletically. Fastball, pounds the zone, run, sat 74-75 mph. Curveball, 1/7 shape, filled the zone, sat 58-60 mph. Changeup, arm side run, sink, clocked at 66-69 mph.
Micah Overley, 3B/RHP, Janesville Craig, 2019
5-foot-11, 140-pound, lanky, two-way prospect. Offensively, left-handed bat, open setup, leg lift timing trigger. Level, long bat path, pull side approach; exit velocity registered at 80 mph. Defensively, long, over the top arm, throws across the diamond clocked at 71 mph. Also, ran a 7.82 laser timed 60. On the mound, high ¾ arm slot, long arm action with regular effort. Tall and fall delivery, slide step, lands slightly closed. Fastball, down in the zone, tilt, pounded the zone, sat between 71-74 mph. Curveball, 12/6 shape, clocked between 63-65 mph. Changeup, fastball arm speed, fade, sat between 66-71 mph.
Bryce Parrish, 3B/RHP, Whitewater, 2018
6-foot-3, 180-pound right-handed hitting 3B/RHP with a strong frame. At the plate hits from a balanced setup with a short stride and good balance. Pull hitter with a short, slightly uphill swing path and a fast bat. Showed strength thru contact with 83 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.17. Defensively has a short arm action from an over the top slot. Throws showed carry across the infield at 79 mph. Plays thru the ball with average hands. On the mound works from an over the top arm angle with a long arm action. Tall and fall online delivery with a short stride. Fastball has tilt with running life that can b heavy at times. Fastball sat 77-79 mph. Curveball has 11-5 shape with loose rotation at 60-63 mph. Showed feel for his changeup that showed sinking action at 66-69 mph.
Carter Robinson, SS/RHP, Appleton North, 2019
6-foot, 175-pound right-handed hitting SS/RHP with an athletic frame. At the plate hits from a balanced setup with a short leg kick stride and average balance. Pull hitter with an uphill swing path. Showed strength thru contact with 85 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.08. Defensively has a short arm action from an over the top arm slot. Throws showed carry at 76 mph across the infield with some accuracy. On the mound works from an over the top arm angle with a short, quick arm action. Tall and fall, uptempo delivery working in line with home plate. Fastball was straight at 78-79 topping out at 81 mph for strikes. Curveball has 12-6 shape with sharp breaking action at 64-66 mph for strikes. Changeup has fading action at 65-67 mph for strikes.
Daniel Rueth, 2B, Wauwatosa West, 2018
6-foot-1, 165-pound right-handed hitting second baseman with a lanky frame. At the plate hits from a balanced setup with a deep load to the backside. Short stride with average balance. Line drive gap to gap hitter with a long swing path. 79 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.94. Defensively has a long arm action from an over the top slot. Slower actions fielding the ball deep. Threw 70 mph across the infield.
Ryen Ryba, SS, Homestead, 2018
5-foot-11, 160-pound left-handed hitting shortstop. Offensively hits from a balanced setup with a short stride and good balance. Line drive gap to gap hitter with good feel for the barrel and looseness in the hands. Short, uphill swing path with a fast bat and fluid rhythm. Showed strength thru contact with 83 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.33. Defensively has a short arm action from a 3/4 slot. Fluid footwork with soft hands. Plays well on the run. Threw 74 mph across the infield.
Alex Struck, SS/C, Middleton, 2019
5-foot-7, 140-pound infielder. Offensively, right-handed hitter, open setup, back side load, short stride. Long, uphill bat path, pull side approach; exit velocity clocked at 79 mph. Defensively, high 3/4 slot, short arm action; throws registered at 72 mph across the diamond. Also, ran a 7.86 laser timed 60.
Max Stubbendick, MIF, Hudson, 2018
5-foot-9, 145-pound, lanky, middle infielder. Offensively, right-handed hitter, open setup, back side load, short stride, flashed balance. Short and level bat path; exit velocity clocked at 78 mph. Defensively, loose arm action produced throws at 70 mph across the diamond. Also, ran a 7.86 laser timed 60.
Dane Vance, SS/RHP, Lake County Lutheran, 2019
5-foot-10, 170-pound two-way prospect. Offensively, right-handed hitter, balanced setup, short stride; exit velocity registered at 78 mph. Defensively, high ¾ slot, long arm action; 70 mph across the diamond. Also, ran a 7.29 laser timed 60. On the mound, high ¾ slot, long arm action, regular effort. Tall and fall delivery, falls to glove side. Fastball, slight run, registered between 72-73 mph, topped at 74 mph. Cutter, sweeping action, sat between 63-67 mph. Changeup, clocked between 61-64 mph.

5-foot-11, 173-pound, middle infield prospect. Offensively, open setup, short stride. Uphill bat path, pull side approach; exit velocity clocked at 71 mph. Defensively, short, over the top arm action, throws registered at 72 mph across the diamond. Also, ran a 7.19 laser timed 60.
