7/25/21

Morris was a standout relief arm on this Firebirds squad, logging 22.1 innings over 11 appearances, including an impressive 5.2-inning showing against Y-D in our look. Though not equipped with his top velocity in this appearance (working 88-to-90 mph and touching 91), the southpaw was able to leverage a big downer curveball (generally 2400-2500 rpm) in the 75-to-78 mph range to rack-up eight strikeouts while allowing a solitary unearned run to go with just two walks and two hits. Morris throws out of a high slot with some violence in his finish, creating good plane overlap out of his hand with his fastball and curve, but also resulting in a below-average straight change that is not yet a viable third weapon against advanced bats. At his best, Morris can get into the 94 mph range with his fastball and flashes sharper snap with his curve – a nice step forward since my first look back at the 2019 Prep Baseball Report Super 60 where he sat 87-88 mph with a still-developing breaker.  There’s now middle-relief potential in the arm and he projects as a potential Day Two target if the arsenal (and the strikeout numbers) continue to trend upwards.

2-03-19: SUPER 60

Razorback Commit, #1 ranked 2019 in Arkansas, 6-Foot-3, 211-Pound frame, athletic build with physical presence, future projection to frame,  ¾ slot, tempo to delivery, clean arm swing, low glove arm, early tuck to release, closed toe land, even land line, heel spin after release at times on off speed, repeatable delivery, fastball 87-88 mph, downward action control at bottom of zone both sides of plate, arm side run with late action, curveball 70-72 mph, depth at plate, 1-7 action, occasional pop out of hand at release, control in zone, downer break at plate, change up, 80-82 mph, action at plate to arm side, control in zone, fastball arm speed with deception.

5-22-18 Arkansas ProCase:

Arkansas commit, 2019 LHP, Zack Morris (6-Foot-3), 211-pound frame, Electric fastball and command of it. Fastball ranged 88-92. Showed feel for high spin breaking ball at 73-76. Change up was inconsistent to arm side but had run at 80-82. Repeated delivery with physical frame.

Top Prospect Games-2017

Morris a 6-foot-2 200-pound left-hander with a large frame and an average build. He pitches from a H ¾ arm slot with a quick arm, his arm action has a slight wrap in the back. His arm speed is fast enough to get on time and command the strike zone. He repeats his simple delivery with normal effort and finishes tall, falling off to the 3rd base side. He commands the fastball in the bottom half of the strike zone at 84-86 mph up to 87 mph with slight run. He compliments his fastball with an 1/7 curveball thrown 74-76 mph with late break. Overall Morris is large framed pitcher with a quick arm and a feel for his breaking ball.

Underclass Games
Morris is a 6-foot-1 200-pound left-hander with a large frame and a solid build. He pitches from a H 3/4 arm slot with a quick arm. He uses a simple repeated delivery that with some effort. He locates his fastball in the bottom half of the strike zone with a fastball 82-84 mph. His curveball is thrown 71-73 mph with 1/7 shape with depth. He threw his change up on limited bases 72-73 mph. Overall Morris a large framed left-hander with a quick arm, which leads to me projecting a high ceiling.

3.3.16
Morris is a 6-foot 190-pound lefthander with a large frame and an average body. He located his fastball 78-80 mph with boring action for strikes in the lower half of the strike zone. He complimented the fastball with 1/7 curveball with late break thrown 67-69 mph for strikes. He pitches from a H ¾ arm slot with a quick arm. He uses easy effort from a tall and fall balance point. Overall Morris is a projectable player that should be interesting to watch throughout the career.
