Smith continued to impress at scout day and proved once again why he is one of the top uncommitted 1st Baseman in the 2021 class. Showing his real power at the plate during BP, Smith produced hard contact all-round, spraying balls gap to gap, finding consistent barrels, and repeating his simple, powerful swing. At 1st, Smith picked it clean and showed his ability to throw, also had great footwork around the base on double play feeds. Even an above-average runner for his position. Smith continued to show that he is one of the premier left-handed power bats in the '21 class out of BC.
5/28/20
Smith projects as the top pure hitter in the province for the 2021 draft class. At 6’3” and right around the 200lbs mark, he looks to project as one of the purest left-handed bats that BC has seen in recent memory. In his grade 10 year, playing in the Sr PBL for the FV Cardinals, he had a .313 average with a 1.027 OPS over 128 at-bats. At IP showcase last February, he averaged 93.4 MPH over 29 recorded swings and topped out at 101.5MPH, eclipsing the 100MPH mark twice, and recording a 99.9 and 99.7 as well.
