A fastball with hop has a flat approach angle and visually jumps through the zone. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher swing and miss average. Hop+ of 100 is MLB average.
Fastball
Sink+
A fastball with sink has low backspin and drops through the strike zone. When thrown down in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher ground ball percentage and lower launch angle. Sink+ of 100 is MLB average.
Fastball
Rise+
A fastball with rise has a high percentage of backspin. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher fly ball percentage. Rise+ of 100 is MLB average
Slider
Hammer+
A hammer breaking ball drops vertically with velocity through the zone, or 12-to-6 movement. Hammer+ of 100 is MLB average.
Slider
Sweep+
A sweeping breaking ball moves horizontally with velocity through the zone. Sweep+ of 100 is MLB average.
The maximum speed, in the direction of home plate, that the wrist is traveling. Measured in meters per second (m/s)
Arm Slot
Angle of the forearm relative to the ground between maximum external rotation (MER) and ball release (BR). Which can be a powerful player comparison metric, delivered in degrees.
Knee Extension Velo
The angular velocity of the front knee straightening after foot plant, which provides indicators of velocity potential. Measured in degrees per second.
Deception
The amount of time that the ball is visible to the hitter, after the instant of front foot strike. Measures in milliseconds.
Hip-Shoulder Separation
The difference in angle of between the hips and shoulders, occurring close to the foot plant. Measured in degrees.
Body: 6-2 170lbs. Larger frame. Lean build. Higher waist. Long limbs Room to add. Delivery: Side steps into a belt high knee tuck. Aggressive sit into back leg. More drop/drive type. Some slight early drive leg flexion. Larger stride (92% of body height). Lower half works in good direction. Shoulders stay above hips. Minimal head movement. Quality lead leg block for transfer up. Aggressive into landing.
Arm Action: Hand lead path. Clean continuous circle in the back that works to a normal 3/4 slot. Average arm speed. Decent layback.
FB: 75-79. Average spin. Minimal IHB. Avg. feel in zone (48%). Armside location tendency SL: 66-69. Large slow sweeper. Avg. spin. 14 inch avg. IHB. Minimal depth. Decent feel in-zone (50% in-zone). Swing and miss against RHHs. CH: 70-71. Kills some spin (500 rpm). 7-8 differential. Not much shape variability off the FB.
9/23/18 - Rising Stars Prospect - Five-foot-6, 112-pounds, medium frame with long legs, a high waist, and large feet. Deliberate drop-and-drive delivery with a high leg kick and slight back turn to the plate to hide the ball. Arm speed is average from a full path in the back through to a hgh ¾ slot. Delivery is repeatable and mechanics are clean. Fastball shows hints of run to the glove side which he tended to throw to the outer half of the plate. Curveball shows gradual movement with 2/8 shape. Tends to slow arm down and almost guide the pitch. Changeup shows fading action from near fastball arm speed. At the plate Correia has a bit of a handsy swing while he maintains the barrel on a slightly uphill path. Keeps his weight back and his hands inside the ball before driving the back hip into the ball. Defensively he showed soft hands with fluid footwork and fair range to both sides. Exchanges were quick and clean. Showed athletic actions defensively while gathering out front and playing through balls. A fundamentally sound player, Correia has some projection with continued physical development and added strength.
