PBR Norcal Preseason All-State - Max FB 79, FB 77-79, CB 69-72, CHG 72-74

Lean, long, lithe build on 6-foot-1, 170-pound frame. Looks the part of a projection-type right-hander. Smooth delivery with smooth body actions. Pretty obvious that with strength gains, particularly in lower body, that he will steadily gain velocity. Simple and efficient delivery with little effort, stride is on-line and arm action is clean out of the glove, with some depth below the waist and good timing on the backside. Not a bunch of power coming from lower half yet, both in strength and how he utilizes his lower body. Finishes with good balance to field position. Slot is high 3/4 approaching overhand. Some head tilt off line as arm comes through. Feel and shape of curveball (11/6) both give hints that it’s a usable pitch in game action, with change-up velocity off the upper-70s fastball can be effective. Both FB and CHG were up a bit more than he would have liked.

5/31/19

BAWS 2019 - Long and lean medium frame with square shoulder, high waist and longer limbs; projectable pitcher body. Starts with hands at chest working deep below his hips and lifting back up in continuous motion to allow arm to get out of glove with some momentum; coils around his back hip showing good posture before pushing down hill on hand break. Compact arm having some hang behind the back as he has bits of drift down the hill. 3/4 release with some head lean over the glove side; can continue to work on consistent release point having his control escape him during his second inning of work. FB 78-80 T81 using run to the arm side and some sink through the zone; pitch was heavy leading to weak contact. CHG 71 with bottom on the armside. CB 63-65 short depth with rolling break in 11/5 shape; when he’s through the baseball has better actions and more bite. Like the frame and pitched well; really only made one mistake during his two innings of work. Strength will be needed for frame to take some leaps.

5/27/19

PBR Norcal Underclass ID - Long large frame with high waist showing length in legs; very lean frame with square shoulders that projects well. Side step as hands work down/up to mid chest continuing momentum into pronounced hand break; front side coils around back hip with slight back turn at leg lift. Front leg is quick and controlled with stiff shin as he rides down the hill; lower half works well in delivery and allows the arm to be smooth through the delivery. Very compact arm with pronounced wrist wrap getting to H-3/4 release with hand speed out front. FB 78-80 angled down into zone. CB 64-65 with 11/5 shape having late bite through the zone; projectable actions when allowing hand to work through the baseball. CHG 70-71 showing arm side bottom off FB look; another projectable pitch that had better feel. Projectable frame that will need to strengthen to make jumps.
