3/01/19

vs San Joaquin Memorial - Uncommitted as of this post; Lean smaller athletic frame, had impactful game in this one. Saw him in three games in the last few weeks. He's a R/R athlete who in the game was the DH, presumably to have him available to relieve later in the game or possibly start the following day (last we saw he was up to 87 on the mound with a big 12/6 CB). He led off in this game, going 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored, and at least three stolen bases. The double was a screaming drive to the deep left centerfield gap, while the two singles weren't exactly well struck, but hit-getters get hits. His hands stay inside the ball well, though I do see some fly ball approach that may not be the best approach for someone of his build and speed. In any case, he does have extra base pop and plenty of bat speed. He's a twitchy player with plenty of confidence and game swagger that should be seen as a good thing, though can get overaggressive on the bases... also a function of his youth. Occasionally will chase the ball up, and that is likely a function of the fly ball approach. Seeing him develop a gap to gap line drive approach, with his speed, would be fantastic. Failed to get the double on video, was slow on the draw, but it was hit real well and he was scooting

Scrimmages v Jesuit/Bella Vista - Uncommitted as of this report though is being recruited fairly significantly by D1 programs. Fairly slight of body at 5-foot-10 160-pounds but he's athletically proportioned and stream-lined, narrow hips. Performs much bigger than physical stature. He had impressive at-bats vs some very good pitching and showed off some speed on the bases, to go with a hitting approach that for the most part had him in the middle of the field. Defensively he can play either MIF spot and has the tools to be recruited there. As a pitcher, he's independently recruitable as well, with a loose and very quick arm that just works super easy. It was shocking to look down and see the gun regularly showing 86 mph (T87) in his second inning of work. To go with that sneaky hot FB he has a big 12/6 curveball, with tight spin and depth to the bottom of the zone. His athleticism shows up in all that he does on the field and confidence oozes out of this young player.

PBR N CA Underclass Games Trials - Uncommitted as of this report. Athletic body type on lean 6-foot-0 155-pound frame. Good proportions and favorable physical projectability. One of the more impressive 2021s in Northern California, both as position player and pitcher. Offensively displayed a disciplined swing and approach, hands work easy and inside the ball. Lower half works with timing to allow hands to work to and through the ball. Good backside hip turn. Hands finish well through contact. Simple and efficient swing with chance to hit for average and as an all field hitter. Defensively gets rid of the ball well, takes good angles, soft sure hands and strong arm that projects for the left side. Good feet and rhythm. Plays confidently. On mound also a prospect. Shallow take away out of his glove, keeps hands comfortably away from his body and gets to a high-3/4 slot. Quick arm with on line stride (maybe very slight cross body). Works to finish backside through pitches. Did display extension though could finish pitches better as he tends to finish a bit upright. Curveball was best pitch, with 12/5 type break, late action and displayed feel for the pitch. Potential out-pitch beyond high school. Some deception comes from that shallow backside arm action as he hides the ball a bit. Change-up also looked good, with feel and quality finish to the pitch. Fastball showed life down in zone, with some sink and occasional heavy action. All in all, quite impressive.
