4/25/18 -As a hitter, Granberg reminds me of Kevin Youkilis as a college hitter, a guy who I had the unpleasant task of calling pitches against in my first ever game as a college coach for Northern Illinois University in 2000. Despite hitting his entire college career (.535 his sophomore year at Cisco JC and .359/.439/.564 as a junior at DBU), Granberg was undrafted out of aColoradohigh school, aTexasjunior college and as a junior last season. He’s balanced in the batter’s box, has exceptional hand/eye and sees the pitch early and well. With a rock-back load, he produces above average bat speed combined with good bat strength. Produces consistent, hard contact. Hammers fastballs and elevated off speed pitches, averaging an exit velocity of 97 mph so far this season and topping out at 107 mph. In baseball talk, this guy is referred to as having the hit gene. Defensively, Granberg has sure hands, a left fielders arm and moves well in the outfield with good reactions to the ball off the bat. He’s deceptively fast for his large, yet trim, body type. Is also an instinctive base runner and 12-for-12 in stolen bases so far this season. Whoever selects the college senior this June will be getting a top college bat at a discount. Look for Granberg to be selected in the top five rounds, maybe even higher by a club with creative bonus pool aspirations.
