6-foot-1, 185-pound shortstop has speed and athleticism that translates on both sides of his game. The switch hitter is balanced at the plate with a middle of the field approach and can hit for average with the power continuing to enter his game. The athleticism and actions are evident at short. It’s a well-rounded game from the Stanford commit right now who does a lot of things right on the field.

Positional Profile: SS

Hit: SWITCH HITTER. LHH Upright feet together stance. Walk away approach to load. Stride forward, hands load. Gets to 60/40 weight distribution on rear side. Consistent load.  Rear side acceleration with aggressive attack, Middle of the field approach. Quick hands with high finish. Consistent balance. Exit Velo: 83
RHH  Upright feet together stance.  Walk away approach. 50/50 Base at launch. Hands create a downward path to ball with high finish.  Solid contact with Gap to Gap approach. Slight tilt to front side as RHH  Exit Velo 85 Very consistent from both sides. Would consider Gabe a strong follow.
Power: See him hitting for AVG and potential for power as strength develops
Arm: INF Velo  75 Long Levers, but creates quick backside arc. Room for growth
Defense: Good Athlete who could be utilized as SS/2B/3B. No Pre Pitch approach, glides to ball and has plus hand/eye. Good momentum through throw.

10/11/19

Springer paced the Slammers Asnicar offense all weekend en route to a runner-up finish. The 5-foot-11, 170-pound shortstop has a wiry-athletic frame with plenty of room to add strength in both the upper and lower-half. Listed as a switch-hitter, his at-bats came exclusively from the left side in my looks, but it was more than enough to cement him as one of the breakout players from the event. Starting upright and narrow with the hands held high, he separates them down and back with a longer stride before working noticeably uphill through the zone. Springer worked gap to gap for multiple extra-base hits demonstrating an ability to utilize the entire field. His loose wrists and quick provide bat speed and developing power that are sure to increase as he continues filling out. He moved well on the infield (until an injury forced him into DH duty), and profiles as a player who can play any position on the dirt moving forward. Overall, the projection on the frame and relaxed athleticism that he exhibits at the plate make Springer an intriguing player for college coaches to follow moving forward.
