Freshman Cody Carwile impressed on Friday, and again on Sunday, both times recording scoreless outings. With carve 'em up command of his upper-80s fastball, upper-70s slurve and deceptive changeup, the loose-armed lefty made easy work of the hard-hitting Hokies and tossed 4.2 total innings. He allowed just one hit and struck out three. On Sunday Carwhile threw just 39 pitches (31 for strikes) in his four inning outing. The high pitchability left-hander looked like a great candidate to replace Maxwell if the power righty heads back to the bullpen later in the season.
