2020 DRAFT: A native of Palmetto Bay, FL, Luis Aviles signed with Rice out of high school before playing his JUCO ball at Wallace-Dothan in Alabama where he had a standout career for the Govs. The right-handed hitting catcher has big power potential and plays with high energy. Defensively, the catch tool is a little ahead of the throw tool. Overall, Aviles is a true middle of the order catcher with above average power potential. After transferring to Tulane, the catcher was a bit banged up to begin the spring which delayed ability to get on the field early. Once healthy, he was able to have an instant impact with the bat while getting starts both behind the dish and in the DH spot. In the shortened season, Aviles batted .394 with a 1.129 OPS while flashing his power tool with 4 doubles and 2 homers in limited action.
