2022 MLB Draft: A draft-eligible sophomore, Thompson elevated himself into a likely first round pick after posting a season slash of .354/.443/.563. The left handed hitter drives the ball to all fields and is also the type of hitter that the analysts are attracted to with near equal walks (37) and strikeouts (47) with a low strikeout rate (15.4%). His slight step in the bucket stride is a pause for some concern, but the bat speed is real, he's long through the zone and his pure hit tool stands out. As he continues to add more strength to his 6-foot-3, 195-pound frame, even greater power numbers are likely on deck. He's a fringe average runner with average arm strength. He profiles best to the corner outfield after showing raw actions on the dirt at second base at times this season.

It was just one late season series, but the Gators' two-hole hitter was super impressive. Featured as one of our Outfield Draft Risers earlier this season, Thompson is a draft-eligible sophomore. He has elevated himself into a potential Day One selection with a current slash of .348/.433/.564. The left handed hitter drives the ball to all fields and is also the type of hitter that the analysts are attracted to with near equal walks (25) and strikeouts (31) with a low strikeout rate (14%). In the past he has shown some vulnerability vs lefties, but don't tell that to Pico Kohn who hung a slider that Thompson demolished to right field for a 389' home run. Additionally, Thompson barreled three hard ground ball singles with EVs of 110.4, 106.8 and 101.3 mph in the series. He profiles best to the corner outfield after showing raw actions on the dirt at second base during the last two games of the series.

4/05/22

Thompson has elevated himself into the top 60 overall picks of the draft with a current slash of .350/.417/.640. At 6-foot-3, 195 pounds he has more size and projection than Gilbert, as well as a little better swing and more power potential. The left handed hitter drives the ball to all fields with a very good approach. He's also the type of hitter that the analysts are attracted to with equal walks and strikeouts (12) with a low strikeout rate (11%). He has shown some vulnerability vs lefties, but his bat speed is real nonetheless, and his pure hit tool stands out. As he continues to add more strength to his frame, even greater power numbers are likely on deck. He's also a fringe average runner with average arm strength from the outfield.

5/25/19

Has a lanky athletic body standing at 6 foot 3 inches and 180 pounds, some room for growth. Has loose arm action when throwing and above average arm with good carry. Good actions fielding, first step could use some work. Fields everything out front and through the ball with a good exchange. Stays balanced at the plate with using a leg kick to get the strong lower half involved. Stays through the zone well and shows fast bat speed with 93 mph exit velocity. Has barrel awareness and shows gap to gap power with potential of power to the pull side.

8/04/18

The 6-foot-3, 180 pound SS/3B has a physical frame. Defensively, he has solid actions and some carry on the throws. Projects to continue to fill out and profiles more as a third baseman at college. He has some range at short and the hands work from the ground up. Offensively, his bat is his best tool. Stays compact, works to extension and creates leverage with present pul; side power. Had a pull side single and overall there is present hit tool, but shows above average power potential. The offensive upside is very high and could be one of the top available bats available in the 2020 class in Florida.

7/14/18

Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot-2, 175 pounds with an athletic, projectable frame. Shows athletic actions up the middle, works under control with sound hands. May slide to a corner if he fills out where he could be an above average defender, but is a solid defender in the middle. Offensively, he has loose wrists and works over the front foot from the left side. Present feel and power potential as he continues to fill out his frame. Had a hard hit single during gameplay. Overall, the tools translate well to game action and has some upside.

6/03/18

Uncommitted. Lean, developing frame with long limbs. Currently stands, 6-foot-2, 175-pounds with plenty of strength to be expected. Left-handed hitter has natural feel for the barrel on a slightly uphill plane, and shows the ability to hit line drives from gap to gap especially to the opposite side. Moves well on the infield where he exhibits adequate arm strength that should continue to increase in the future.

11/05/17

Lean infielder with some projection. Could improve the athleticism and first step quickness, but the bat stands out. The left handed hitter is aggressive through the zone with present bat speed. He consistently found the barrel and shows upside offensively.
