CLASS OF 2025

Georgia Tech commit. 2023 Future Gamer. Hartwell put on one of the more impressive summers at the plate, hitting over .500 against a national schedule. First time seeing him this spring, and he had 3 barrels off a quality arm that were all probably 100EV off the bat. Hartwell’s ability to slow the game down, and not try to do too much is impressive for his age. He is never out of AB’s with his ability to adjust and recognize pitches out of the pitchers hand. He has a plan each AB and sticks with it.

Uncommitted. 6-foot-4, 205 pounds. First, we would like to congratulate Hartwell on accepting his invitation to represent Georgia in the 2023 Future Games. Hartwell is the 3-hole hitter in one of Georgia’s best teams. One of the top bats in the class, future A/AVG hitter with equal power production. Tall, large frame with coat hanger shoulders, noticeably athletic. Tracks pitches well, smart hitter. Smooth power swing with a lot of leverage. Dynamic swing mechanics with surprising strength, multiple 90+ EV hits this tournament. He has been crushing pitching the past three tournaments at LakePoint, and will be back again for another for the upcoming tournament. Hit over .500 with a home run in the PBR Classic. Hard to believe he is still uncommitted, because it doesn’t stop at hitting. An electric pitcher topping 88 on the fastball, he’s shown that he can be a lockdown closer. Smooth, well-connected delivery with a deceptive short circle arm action. We hope to see more of his pitching ability this weekend and watch him mash baseballs.

Body: 6-4, 205-pounds.
Hit: RHH. Open stance, athletic bend in knees, leg-kick load. Pull-side power, but hard contact to all fields. Hits the ball where it is pitched. 63.2 mph bat speed with 16 G’s of rotational acceleration.
Power: 93 max exit velocity, averaged 88.4 mph. 345' max distance.
Arm: RH. INF-86 mph. Whippy arm action, powerful pulldow.
Defense: Quick transfer, quick release.
ATH: 7.34 runner in the 60. 1.76 in the 10 yard split.

Uncommitted. 6-foot-3, 200 pounds. In PBR Georgia’s eyes, it’s been an absolutely monumental start for Hartwell in 2023. He led it off with the best BP in our entire Preseason All-State event, launching moon shots to all fields with ease. He showed an innate ability to manipulate the barrel and has proven himself time and time again that he can hit good D1 commits. He creates natural lift with his advanced lower half sink and his feel for gradually tilting the shoulders south in stride to work north on a diagonal plane post landing. While his performance vs Tallulah wasn’t as eye opening to your average baseball fan, it was eye opening to me. As a scout, I’m always looking for the next progression in a hitter/pitcher. This may be the improvement of a tool, an intangible, strength gains, or all of the above. With Hartwell, he looked even taller than when I saw him in January. This is not likely, but it speaks to the insane projection in his large, lengthy frame. Just like gaining familiarity with anything, you notice more detail as you see something or someone more than once. But Judson’s performance was exactly what I had hoped. Already well versed on his all fields raw power and ability to handle D1 arms, I wanted to see how pure of a hitter he really was. He passed the pure hitter test with ease, showing his ability to minimize his approach and hit line drives to the left of 2B, directly over 2B, and just to the right of 2B for 3 barrels (2 hits). Even more impressive, all 3 hits were off different pitches!! First was a CH, 2nd was a SL, 3rd was a FB. He laced all 3, showing not only advanced pitch recognition, but the discipline to take singles instead of forcing the ball in the air. Then he got on the bump and hit a PR of 87, locking down the game with a barrage of high quality FB’s coming in on a steep plane. His current athleticism is only at the tip of the iceberg, as he still needs time to grow into his feet and coat hanger frame. This is a truly special bat who can play really all IF positions, and has plenty of arm talent. Saying he’s a solid D1 talent would be a complete understatement. This is a priority bat who will make huge noise out of Athens for years to come.

Chest loads hands for him, but multiplies torque in launch position due to an added little C hand trigger post. Some of the best linear connection in the class, creates effortless power. Holding backside bend in stride closes space for knee 2 knee clearance post landing, centralizing balance & power. Front side firm @ land w/ slight bend in knee providing strong foundation Shoulders (used as lever) gradually tilt south in stride on diagonal plane 2 go north post landing - creates efficient, steep knob led path matches plane w/ unreal loft! Adjusts path well underway to all pitch locations.

GA Preseason All State

I have to say this was the most memorable BP round of the entire event. Last spring when we first got our eyes on Hartwell, he was starting at SS on varsity as a freshman. He impressed me with 2 barrel and an oppo double vs Tallulah Falls, then I saw him in the playoffs vs a loaded North Cobb Christian team. He faced 2 D1 arms (Blake Dean, Juan Vargas) and a juco LHP up to 94 (Armando Nunez) and had good AB’s against all of them, getting one barrel but was on plenty of pitches with some direct foul backs & fouls down the line. For me, that’s when he became a different guy in my eyes. But at PAS23, he went up another level for me. This is a player who matches plane incredibly well, and checks every single box you look for in a complete hitter. The swing is perfectly sequenced and he creates tons of torque and leverage with the way he separates. He also keeps the lower half compacted, making it easier to match pitch plane and create power throughout the kinetic chain. What stood out with Judson is the ability to drive the ball to all fields (97 EV, 23.4 hand speed, 73.6 bat speed) with ease and with unreal loft on everything he hit. He hits the ball as high as he does far, and it was shocking how consistent his power was to the right center gap. His versatility to front arm shrink on an inside pitch and turn the barrel in tight space for a HR - 1 swing after going off the wall in the oppo was the most impressive thing about him. He has plenty of instincts defensively, solid footwork, and some big arm strength for his age to go with it (86 IF). 83-85 off the mound as well!
