Brehmer, a 6-foot-6, 190-pound projectable arm would go on to impress the many scouts in attendance with a six inning, 11 strikeout performance while showing a 90-94 mph fastball and mixing a 78-82 curve, 82-85 slider and 84-87 changeup.
Long bodied righty with good downhill plane from a high slot and much effort to his delivery. His fastball sat in the 91-92 mph range, while spinning in the upper 2200s. Brehmer also mixed in a useable cutter/slider at 82-84 and a sinking changeup at 80-81 (1900 SR).
Spring Scout Blog: With a handful of pro scouts in attendance to see Brehmer, the Wright State commit did not disappoint. Brehmer spun a 15k CG no hitter with 1 walk and 1 HBP. Pitches from high 3/4 slot, short quick arm stroke from ultra projectable 6'5 frame. Some effort to delivery that also has a bit of a head jerk at the end but showed good tempo to the plate. Opened up the game sitting 86-87 T88. Held velocity well until the 3rd inning when he had some command issues and fell behind in counts. FB was 82-85 in the 3rd mainly working out of the stretch. He ramped back up into the 85-87 range in the last 4 innings of his outing. FB showed late/heavy life with sink. Commanded FB to both sides of the plate and lived in the bottom half for most of outing. Also featured a BB that was sharp and tight in the 1st at 76-78. BB has more of a SL shape than a true CB. Does tend to slow down arm and alter delivery when he tries to spin it. This caused him to get around the ball at times and BB was flat through zone. Command of BB was streaky after the 1st inning. BB did flash above average potential at times when he kept the same arm speed in delivery.
7/11/17: Wright State commit. Currently ranked No. 29 in the Indiana Class of 2018. 6-foot-4, 170-pound right-handed pitcher with a lanky, athletic frame. Works from a high ¾ arm angle with a high draw out of the glove with a quick arm action. Tall and fall delivery working in line with home plate. Works fast. Fastball flashed late run at 86-87 topping out at 88 mph. Curveball has 11-5 shape with sharp breaking action at 75-77 mph. Drops arm angle on changeup at 75 mph.
4/18/17 Game Notes: Uncommitted. 6-foot-4 170 RHP combined two impressive outings in four days going 12IP with 18Ks, 2H, 1BB and no runs. Pitches come from a loose 3/4 slot and quick arm action. Delivery has some effort and rhythm but is balanced and usually repeatable. Level shoulders and square landing. Good, athletic finish. Works quickly and with swagger. Commanded fastball flashed some sink action and was 84-87 T89 in the first and 82-85 in the third. Slider was 10/4 with depth and near fastball delivery. Displayed ability to go in and out and backdoor some hitters. The pitch still needs developed as it was hittable when break was absent. Slider was 72-74 throughout the game. Produced several uncomfortable at bats for opposing hitters.
