MWFG 8/16/13: The physically strong 6-foot-1, 198-pound Cherry will likely be recruited as a pitcher. And rightfully so. He did, after all, top at 89 mph on the mound, sitting 87-88, with a lot of pitchability. With that said, I found him as one of the most projectable catching prospects at the Midwest Future Games. His arm strength is undeniable. He was 82 mph from the crouch, and hosed a runner with a 1.97 in-game pop time. During workouts, he put everything gloveside on the bag, with consistent 1.93-1.94 pop times. Above all, he shows the ability to hit. He is extremely balanced and has a level path through the zone and creates natural lift in his swing. What will ultimately separate Cherry as a pitcher or catcher is his in-game receiving skills. Either way, he should become a heavily recruited prospect … perhaps as a catcher/closer type.

5/15/13 Game Notes: Cherry is 6-foot-1 and athletic. The righty on the mound was 84-86 touched 87 in first two innings. CB above average for him age. The mound may not be the best place for him. Shows potential power. Quick hands; good setup. Could be a two way guy.
