+ RHP Cole Sabelhaus (Brownsburg): I caught Sabelhaus in a 1-inning relief stint versus Lawrence North. He stands at 6-foot-1, 192-pounds, with some projection still remaining in the frame. He works from the stretch-only, lifting quickly to a moderate balance point with a simple move down the slope. The arm works long and quick to a higher slot. He cut the heater at 89-91 mph and touched 92 twice. He showed two breaking balls, a 74-76 mph curveball and a 76-77 mph slider. He also flashed a 83-84 mph changeup. The control of his arsenal was inconsistent throughout as he walked three with less than 50% strikes but the raw arm talent was very intriguing and some of the best I’ve seen early on this spring.
Sabelhaus is wiry with all kinds of room to fill out, in a 6-foot-1, 170 pound frame. He played catch in the low-80s while showing above average feel for the fastball and spin. He is a really good mover evident in the 6'4" fastball extension and silky patterns, and the arm works with a loose whip to a high 3/4 slot. I was impressed with the ease of operation, command, and pitch shape - and then Sabelhaus threw in a wrinkle by reaching back for 87 and a pair off 88s, for strikes, to conclude his 'pen. He is a really interesting follow with several traits to bet on. The slider is a softer sweeper in the upper-60s that likely sharpens if thrown firmer, while his curveball showed two-plane shape and played more in the low-70s. The changeup, though not commanded, was the best present pitch from a metric perspective - sitting in the mid-70s with over a foot of arm-side fade.
