4/3/2019 Spring Scout Blog: A recent riser in the 2019 class and Xavier commit, Sprong came on late in relief to shut down an experienced and talented county rival. The lanky righty was recently named to the PBR Indiana Preseason All State Second Team and showed why in 2 and 2/3 innings of work. Sprong works confidently with some fire and with good pace and rhythm. Fastball comes from a 3/4 slot and is on the hitter quickly. Pitch was thrown 85-88 with a few 89's touching 90 twice in the first few batters. Pitch showed some run action and was thrown consistently on the inner half of RHHs. Pitch did elevate at times. Breaking ball had a 10/4 shape with some flashy late/tight action. Was thrown consistently down and could develop into a real swing and miss pitch when thrown firm with FB or near FB arm speed. Between innings the firmness was lost and with it the tight action. Though Sprong has displayed both a CB and SL this pitch had a definite CB shape thrown 74-76 and kept hitters off balance well. It would not be a surprise to see more command consistency as the season progresses and a tic more velocity as the weather warms.

3/30/2018 Spring Scout Blog: Uncommitted 2019, 6-foot-2, 180 pound right hander sat 85-86 with the fastball, touched 87, arm side run with life, heavy and down in the zone for first 3 innings. Threw a complete game, 7 IP, gave up 1 H, 2 ER, and struck out 7. 84-85 out of the stretch, mixes lift and slide step, athletic feet to pick and hold runners. Broad shoulders, long and loose limbs, clean arm swing with whippy fast arm action. Repeats delivery with inward turn and small pause at the top, stays closed and lands slightly closed down the mound, athletic delivery with low 3/4 arm slot, creates some deception. Produced lot of weak contact with fastball diving down in zone. Threw very few breaking balls, showed a more side to side out pitch slider, pulling glove side and threw a get me over curveball with more 11/5 break, 70-72. Still has some rawness, more secondary pitch needed. Athletic off the mound and to field position. Left handed hitter, hit 3rd in lineup, 1-2 with RBI.
