RHP Gavin McGee, 2028, Roncalli: I saw McGee in a two-inning relief stint versus Avon. An athletic, 6-foot, 180-pounder, McGee used a controlled, athletic, higher inward turn lift followed by an in-line stride that landed square to home. The arm stroke is clean and should continue to hold more velo moving forward, despite only a bit of projection to the frame. He pitched at 85-89 in my look, a touch firmer with a more true 4S riding version of the heater while he pitched at more of the bottom of that velocity with a sinker that showed devastating bottom at times. I was really impressed with his 77-79 curveball in this look, a pitch that he controlled well and was able to land consistently. The curveball plays with bite and will get more swing-and-miss when he is able to set it up with the fastball, but he did not have his best FB control in my look. He scattered four walks for a pair of earned runs in his two innings that I saw.

Continuing to refine his game, McGee's bullpen was outstanding as he brought a wider arsenal, along with noticeably more strength in his 6-foot, 190-pound frame. Uncoiling from a taller lift with athleticism, McGee's quick, clean arm stroke turned in 89-90 mph heaters consistently and he reached back for an event-best 92.4 to conclude the look. The supinated arm comes through with impressive arm speed as he manipulated two distinct breaking ball shapes; a short, tight 85-86 cutter and a two-plane CB at 2500+ that flashed sharp. The circle change faded late at 80-83 and looked similiar to his 88-89 mph sinker out the hand. It is five true shapes for McGee who looked as polished as any in this look. While the control has been fringe-to-average in the past, this look was quite the opposite as he repeated well and he appears to have made very strong strides in that department. If that control is repeated this spring, look for McGee to make a move up the board amongst this uber-talented crop of arms in the 2028 class.

Silky mover that is the highest-rated '28 that was in attendance. Athletic, stretch 6-footer with compact quickness to the arm - plays with advanced arm talent. Turned in above average athletic metrics, highlighted by a 7.0 60, and also reached 92 mph from the OF during position player workers. His highest ceiling look came on the bump, where he sat 86-87 and touched 89 on the heater. Spun two-distinct breakers that both showed bite and induced uncomfortable takes. Spin was his go-to land pitch in this outing with fastball strikes coming at a bit of a coin flip. Regardless, there is unteachable arm talent here that will garner recognition late next summer.

Frame / Athleticism: Athletic look, 6-foot, 175 pounds. Broad-shouldered with some room for projection still left. Still 14, young for the class. Stuff: Showed one of the better fastballs of the day. Carried it at 18.6" of vert at 84-85 mph and it was one of the better controlled fastballs of the day. His curveball is thrown firm for the class, 73-75, and he spun it in the 23-2400s. It has two-plane shape and tunnels off the fastball. Changeup plays with 18" of arm side. Controlled all pitches. Arm Action / Delivery: Double pumps before an athletic lift. Hips work to create very solid hip-to-shoulder, shoulders remain in-line throughout. Good mover overall. Arm action is loose and athletic. Gets big scap retraction with some whip to a high 3/4 release. Summation: The arm action is really good here to go along with some of the days' best present stuff. The fact that he is young, and an above average athlete, makes projections comfortable. I really like the pitch shape and think he has a chance to get a lot of swing and miss. His delivery, and control, both showed big improvements in this look. His bullpen was mature and executed.

McGee showed off quality stuff for the age to pair with his athletic, 5-foot-11, 165 pound frame. The arm action here is one of the better ones I've identified in this young class, as the arm works clean on the backside with some whip & arm speed as he turns it over. McGee showed three pitches with solid properties, beginning with a carry fastball (18" IVB on avg) that works at 82-84. His best secondary offering is his 75-78 mph changeup, a pitch that averages 19" of horizontal break that he was able to miss bats with. McGee also showed a 67-72 mph breaking ball that played with depth and spun north of 2400 on average.
