+ RHP Lucas Haas (Valparaiso): Our top-ranked uncommitted junior, Haas has appeared to turn a corner through a pair of spring looks. In showcase, his velocities showed steady trends with the familiar silky delivery/arm action that has him regarded highly on our board. My in-game look broughout a pair of scoreless frames where he was in the zone at a 64% clip and struck out 4. He is a lean, wiry, 6-foot-3, 170-pounder with ample projection as the shoulders are starting to widen. He pitched at 89-90 in the first, before settling at 87-89 in the second frame; FB plays with some sink. 82-83 CH was his go-to secondary, a quality offering playing with late fade that he controlled well. The breaking ball has made advancements and flashed a swing-and-miss look as he swept it at 75-78. The overall stuff continues to advance, and should do nothing but that in the future as strength is added, the control has taken a step up, and the secondaries are following suit, as well.
Showed as the top uncommitted arm at the event with quality development trends. Lean, projectable, 6-foot-3, 175-pound frame. Tall, tucked lift before silky drop&drive and square landing. Full arm stroke w/ outstanding acceleration. One of the cleanest operations in the class. Pitched at 89-91 with a sinker-like fastball and his 82-83 change comes out with the same look before falling off the table late. His slider has firmed at 76-78 and plays with hop-sweep shape & is at least an average pitch now. Easy to project future jumps, strong chance this is mid-90s at some point. Strikes have been a bit of a question in the past, but that was not the case at this event. Flooded the zone with all 3. If he repeats that this spring, look for Haas to continue to climb the overall board.
+ Huge upside here - an arm I have followed for a while and he did not disappoint in his first Prep Baseball event. He's long-limbed and wiry standing at all of 6-foot-3 and 170 pounds. Its a loose, athletic mover that really gets down the mound and the delivery & arm action are clean as a whistle. His fastball played at 85-87 and he paired it with a looser sweeper at 73-75. There is upside for the slider to develop into a swing-and-miss pitch given the shape. He flashed a couple real changeups in the upper-70s that played with big fade. He controlled his pitches at an above average clip with below-moderate effort. There is starters' upside here and it is easy to dream on the arsenal to firm up even further as he adds strength. Haas is a name-to-know for August 1 of this year.
