Ackerman, our No. 2 lefty in the class, showed a lengthened, cleaner arm stroke that seemed to pay dividends. The fastball took a step up and played 86-88 from a low-release height. He carries the fastball true for a flat VAA and is able to run it for a foot of arm-side on average. The slider is a weapon at 75-77 with near-3000 spin and vicious late sweep. His low-80s change is just as lethal as he kills spin on it for a faded look to the arm-side. It is a true 3-pitch mix for the Northwestern recruit who holds some of the best pitch-ability in the class.

+ LHP Riley Ackerman (Crown Point) is one of the premier lefties in the class with a projectable, 6-foot-2, 175 pound frame. He is a simple, in-line mover w a short arm circle & small stab on the backside as he slings to a 3/4 slot. He sat 84-85 T 86 on a lower slot fastball that he showed control of. The slider is a future out-pitch w 2300 spin & 14-plus inches of sweep at 73-75. He rounded out a potential starters' mix w a 78-80 change that sinks. In total, he showed above average feel for all & is a priority follow moving forward.

Ackerman cemented himself amongst the states best 2027 lefties after a dominant outing at the State Games, where he gave hitters much-older fits with a quality three pitch mix and a deceptive look. The fastball plays at 81-83 for now, but as strength gets added to the 6-foot-1, 155 pound frame, that number should tick. The trait to dream on here is his ability to spin, showing off a true sweeper in the low-70s that spins into the 2700s for a future-wipeout look. He can pull the string on a faded change, commanded to the arm-side, to allow for starters' upside. The arm action is a bit unorthodox, but Ackerman is a good athlete with command of all three pitches, with one of the better breaking balls in the class to this point.
