A breakout star for the Golden Eagles as a sophomore last spring, Hall has the top changeup that I’ve seen this spring. With a compact to short arm path and a polished, repeatable delivery, the 6-foot-1, 180-pound right-hander pounds the zone with an 88-92 mph sinker. The pitch plays up with its command and life. It also plays up due to his best pitch; a legitimate plus-plus changeup at 81-84 that wiggles, cuts or abruptly dives as the bottom falls out. He throws it with excellent arm speed and commands it to both sides of the plate. Of the 114 pitches that he threw against Louisiana, 53 were changeups. Of those 53, he induced 18 empty swings and another nine foul balls. His third pitch is a seldom used, yet effective slider in the 78-83 mph range. He only threw seven total on this look, but showed the ability to expand to his glove side, inviting right handed hitters to chase. For the season Hall is 11-3 with a 2.45 ERA and 100 strikeouts against 30 walks in 88 innings. Overall, Hall looked like yet another future big leaguer for the Golden Eagles and is a likely top two round pick this July.

USA CNT TRIALS: Hall was a breakout star for the Golden Eagles as a sophomore this spring, going 9-3, 2.81 with a dazzling 146-14 K-BB mark in 109 innings of work. The 6-foot-1, 178-pound Hall attacks with an 87-91 mph sinker from a low three-quarters slot and induces groundball outs by the bushel. But his best pitch is a legitimate plus changeup at 80-83 that wiggles, cuts or dives, depending upon what the situation calls for. He throws it with excellent arm speed and commands it impeccably. He also mixes in a useful slider at 78-79 that shows good bite at times, though he used it sparingly in his two-inning stint for Team USA in North Carolina. He made the final roster and shined in the Netherlands, allowing just three hits over four shutout innings while striking out seven in his lone start. Hall’s polish and competitiveness make him one of college baseball’s best pitchers heading into his junior year, but his below-average fastball velocity keeps him from being an elite prospect at this stage, even though the pitch is very effective at the collegiate level.

Breaking ball showed 10/4 shape with quality spin, depth, and deception at 74-75 mph. Also showed quality feel for a changeup with fastball arm speed, deception and fade action at 76-77 mph.
