Cape Cod: One of the most exciting pop-up arms in the Cape League this summer, Lanthier made a name for himself by posting a 2.82 ERA and a 32-11 K-BB mark in 22.1 IP for the Harbor Hawks, and he’ll take his talents from the Division II ranks to Kansas for the upcoming season. Very physical at 6-foot-5, 220 pounds, Lanthier has a good, clean delivery and a high three-quarters slot. He held his stuff pretty well in over 3.2 scoreless innings in our look, sitting comfortably at 92-94 and bumping 95 with high spin rates in the 2400-2500s and outstanding induced vertical break (19-20 inches). His heater has serious carry up in the zone, and he complements the pitch with a developing but promising slider at 78-82 with good, tight spin in the 2500-2700s. His mid-80s changeup remains a work in progress, as he can use it to get occasional swing-and-misses but he does not command it consistently yet. Under the tutelage of Dan Fitzgerald at Kansas, Lanthier could well jump into Day One draft consideration by next summer.
