LHP William Kirk (Ramsey HS, NJ; Virginia commit) tossed a quick 1-2-3 top of the first, recording all of his outs with a deceptive 77-78 mph changeup. He continued to deal in his second inning of work, blowing a 88-90 mph fastball past the leadoff hitter for a strikeout, then battled Ty Head (Windermere HS, FL; NC State) to a nine-pitch at-bat before pulling the string once again to Head looking at an inside changeup for the called strikeout. The 6-foot-3 Virginia commit topped at 90 mph with his fastball while adding an occasional 77-78 mph slider which spun up to 2,515 rpm. It’s a near average pitch now that will only improve in the future. Kirk faced nine batters in three innings and retired all of them in order, including six via the strikeout.
7/01/22
Kirk is long-limbed and wiry at 6-foot-2, 170-pounds. The lefty starts in the middle of the rubber, feet slightly offset. Rhythm and tempo, clean actions in his delivery. Both halves work in sync. Even shoulder tilt. Has intent down the mound. Long, loose, clean arm action. Higher 3/4 arm slot. FB sat 84-85 MPH with some run. SL with easy swing and miss ability at 74-75 MPH. CH with some fade at 74-75 MPH.
