Athletic 5-foot-10, 175 pounds. Ran a 7.28 60 yard dash. Offensively- Stands in the box in a athletic position. Displayed a short compact swing during the hitting portion. The short compact swing as some pop. Loose hands in a low position before attacking the baseball. Consistent hard contact. Projectable power with some extra development. Top exit velocity was 92 MPH. Defensively- Active footwork. Slightly upright at the ground ball right at him. Soft hands with a quick release, low ¾ arm slot on throws across the infield. Top throws across the infield was 83 MPH. Pitching- The right handed pitcher displayed a repeatable delivery. Uses a high leg lift, balanced, drives downhill on a plane towards home plate. Slight shoulder tilt, quick short arm action. Good FB command which peaked at 82 MPH. The CB has 12/6 break at 60-62, and feel for a CH 65-66 MPH.
Physical, strong build and compact actions at 5-foot-10, 175-pounds. Strong hands at the point of contact. Gets to the ball quick, 90 mph exit velo. Lean athletic body with a good arm swing. Repeats mechanics well with good lower body drive down the mound. Release point is a mid 3/4 arm slot with run on this fastball. Change up has good arm side sink and is efficient in the zone. Curveball shows tight 12/6 spin.
Spring 2018
Quiet pre-pitch at the plate with weight pre-loaded to back side; short leg kick with a sweeping two-handed finish through the zone. On the mound Bernacki works from the arm side of the rubber; slight coil up to his balance point working from a 3/4 slot. Commands fastball down in the zone, specifically to his glove side versus right-handed hitters. Compliments FB with a big 12-to-6 CB with late spike to it. Occasionally can get around the pitch which loosens the spin and creates more 11-to-5 action.
Preseason - West (February 19, 2017)
Standing 5-foot-9, 175-pounds (up ten pounds since Sept.) with a thick strong lower half. On the mound, he uses a quick tempo, high leg-lift, drives forward with angle off his back side, long stride. Arm-action is long and back, quick hand-speed out in front, releases from a high 3/4 slot. Fastball peaked at 83 mph with effort (up five mph since Sept.) sat 80-82, curveball looked above average with 10/6 hard shape with feel for command. Really like the progress he has made from the mound, excited to see him more this spring/summer.
WNY All-Star Games (September 24, 2017)
Bernacki stands 5-foot-9, 165-pounds with some strength to his size. At the plate, he uses a slightly open stance with bounce in his legs, loose hands near his chin. He uses a knee lift on the pitch for timing with a stride driving hips forward, strong firm back leg on the stride. Barrel stays mostly flat through contact on a short path, does not get cheated. Full aggressive effort 90 mph exit velocity. Ran a 4.27 home-to-first. Defensively solid with active footwork, strong arm across diamond at 77 mph. He also pitches, showing a mid-upper 70's arm with feel of a 10/5 shape curveball. Overall, Bernacki is young and full of energy, with current upside in the box. Does things a little unorthodox but should smooth out with more reps and training. Really like the motor and looking forward to following his progress.
Oswego - August 15, 2017
Bernacki stands a solid 5-foot-9, 165-pounds. Offensively- Mostly even stance, loose hands, some juice in swing to pullside. Barrel is mostly level through contact, full extension, hard contact. Exit velocity was an impressive 88 MPH. Defensively- Active around the bag, long arm-action at 77 MPH throws to 3B, projects to the position. Pitching- Starts slightly to side with wind-up, tucks his hands by his back hip, arm-action is straight up out of his glove and back, releases from an over-the-top slot, fastball shows some downward depth sitting 75-77, last FB was 78 MPH. Curveball sat 55-56 with loose shape. Changeup sat 59 mph with arm-fade.
Diamond Pro Showcase (January 2017)
Bernacki has a strong, athletic frame. Showed off decent athleticism for his age by running a 4.27 time from home to first. Offensively- Stance is slightly open with high hands that are level with his ear. Strides to even, toe landing open. Very little load with the hands. Attacks the ball with his back hip and really sinks into his legs, creating an exit velocity of 82 MPH off the tee. Made all of his contact very far out in front of the plate, causing his top hand to take over the swing and only showing pull side results. Defensively- Actions are a little stiff in the field, as he approaches the ball with short, choppy steps. Uses a double foot-to-foot shuffle to gain ground towards his target. Throws with a slingshot, sidearm arm action at 76 MPH from the infield. Pitching- Begins with feet as wide as the rubber, knees slightly bent, and hands in front of chest. Small side step is accompanied with his pivot foot sliding all the way to the first base side of the rubber. Leg lift is quick and comes above the waistline. Turns back slightly to hitter, creating good tension through his middle and allows him to unleash quickly towards home plate. Arm goes behind his body towards first base and accelerate quickly at a low ¾ arm slot. Fastball sat in the 76-78 MPH range. Arm speed slowed with throwing his changeup, which was clocked at 58-61 MPH. Increasing arm speed will bring the changeup velocity closer to his fastball and create better deception.
