Comments
Jones is a 5-foot-9, 160-pound 2B/RHP. He ran a 7.20 60 with a 7.04 on record back in February. Offensively- Weight slightly favoring back side with hands at shoulder level. Bat tap timing prior to toe touch load keeps body in sync and on balance. Very good hand separation as front foot comes down, back leg is very explosive and creates great hip action. High, one-arm on balance finish Exit velocity: 90 MPH (up 5 MPH from 2/2016). Defensively- Very quick feet, gets hips around ball and has a nice hand transfer. Makes plays going both ways with ease and projects to be a solid second basemen at the next level, ¾ arm slot. Throws 74 MPH (up 1 MPH from 2/2016) across the diamond.
Preseason All-State (February 28, 2016)
Jones stands 5-foot-9, 160-pounds with an athletic build. He ran a 7.20 60; with a 7.04 back in February. Offensively - Relaxed simple approach, quick back load on the pitch with a small heel-lift for timing. Repeatable, balanced swing through contact, hands are compact and strong (85 mph exit velo) slight incline with a one-arm finish. Shows good bat control with consistent contact. Defensively - Active lower half with smooth actions through the ball. Soft hands, clean transfer to a multi-slot release. Arm-strength was 73 mph but with his fast release he fits in at 2B nicely - should work to improve his arm-strength. Pitching - Simple delivery with a belt high leg-lift. Longer arm-action, hand gets close to the head, throws from a high-3/4 slot, body falls off to the first-base side. Looks more comfortable with his off-speed, good hand-speed changeup at 60 mph with fade, curveball has late action at 67 - 11/5 shape. Fastball topped 77 mph with good control.
