New York Games (July 7-9, 2015)
Strong, thick, athletic body standing at 6-foot-4, 205-pounds. Good instincts and hands in the field, has decent range at this position, releases at a high-3/4 arm slot and has loose arm action. At the plate starts with an opened, relaxed stance, takes a balanced and short stride to the pitch with a fluid load, hands stay long through the zone and the bat plane maintains level with some uphill tilt, has projection as a hitter and stays balanced after contact, above average bat-speed.

Preseason All-State (February 15, 2015)
Payne stands 6-foot-4, 205-pounds with incredible size and projection. The rising sophomore LHH can flat out swing it. His exit velocity was 89 mph off a tee, his BP round was impressive showing big-time power potential with a pro body. At the plate he shows a relaxed setup with an open stance. Short stride with extension out in front.  His hands power inside ball with a level bat path. Power projection, next level bat from the left side. From 1B he fields the ball out in front of his body continuing to work on his fielding game. He stands tall through throw with an over-the-top arm action. Very projectable 2017 graduate.

Last Chance Preview (October 18, 2014)
Payne stands 6-foot-4, 205-pounds with incredible size and projection at the corner. At first base he fields the ball out in front of his body, uses good footwork for his size lining up with his target, clean arm action, throws from a high-3/4 slot, infield arm strength at 68 mph. Velocity projection with maturity. At the plate he has next level tools. His setup is relaxed and upright. On the pitch he loads back, powers his hands inside the ball (85 mph exit velo), level through the zone, short path. Long extension out in front with a high balanced finish. Power potential is there, with continued development expect big things from Payne.
