7/06/20

Physical: Stocky, well proportioned 5-foot-9, 185-pound frame. 7.33 runner in the 60-yard dash.

Offensively: RHH. Open, narrow stance with the hands starting with slight rhythm above the shoulder in the setup. Utilized a leg hang stride with some weight shift to the front side in order to initiate a slightly uphill barrel path into the hitting zone. When on time with the stride, created natural lift to the pull side gap while the hands worked towards a high finish. Occasionally got the foot down late and got steep on the attack angle allowing for more ground balls / soft line drives, but when the rhythm was on the RHH did damage at the plate. Demonstrated the ability to stay on the baseball out over the plate and drive it the other way if pitched into that quadrant. Two handed finish with a short compact swing when need be. Recorded a max of 91 mph bat-exit velocity per Trackman Baseball.

Defensively: The primary catcher displayed a low and narrow crouch while receiving with a soft glove hand at the catch point. Pop times ranged from 2.03-2.14 using solid straight line footwork towards the target and quality catch and throw skills allowed for an accurate throwing arm to play through a quick, high ¾ slot with a moderate takeaway. Beat the ball to the spot on either side of the plate while blocking with soft walls creating recovery ability to any bag. C - 73 mph

2/18/20

Physical: 5-foot-9, 185-pounds. Lean frame, ability to add weight. 7.19 runner in the 60; 4.32 home-to-1B.
Offensively: RHH. Feet shoulders with apart, slightly open stance, simple load action, small leg kick, steady hands Quick strong hands through the zone, short compact swing, two handed finish. Hard contact across the field. 84 MPH raw exit velocity.
Defensively: 1.98-2.03 pop times. Balance, slightly off-center stance, strong frame, quick ball exchange with a quick release, accurate throws around the base.  Medium arm swing, high 3/4 slot. C - 73 MPH.

6/25/19

A physical build at 5-foot-9,175 pounds. Ran a 7.58 in the 60 yard dash. Offensively- The right handed hitter stands in the box with feet shoulder width apart. Displayed a short compact swing. Gets full extension after the point of contact. Finishes with a two hand follow through. Displayed hard consistent contact to the middle part of the field. Top exit velocity was 86 MPH. Defensively- As a catcher, Receives the ball slightly off center. Has an above average exchange and a quick release from a high ¾ arm slot. Top throwing velocity was 73 MPH. Pop time ranged from a 2.15-2.29 . The 2021 Catcher is a must follow.

2.19.19

A strong 5-foot-9, 175 pounds. Ran a 7.62 60 yard dash. Offensively- stands in the box with a wide base and slight bend knees. Displayed a short load before attacking the baseball. Quick to the hitting zone. Doesn’t fully finish his swing. Balanced throughout the swing. Top exit velocity was 76 MPH. Defensively-  sits in a low base. Quick transition and release. Shoots out of the position. Top throwing velocity to 2B was 70 MPH. Pop time ranged from 2.15-2.20. The 2021 C is a must follow going forward. Strong arm behind the plate.

Campus Series-Oswego (July 28, 2018)

Proportionally built 5-foot-7 170 pound right-handed hitting catcher that ran a 4.39 home-to-1B. Offensively- Spread, even stance with minimal timing mechanisms; slight weight transfer into contact with a down angle swing into the zone with a short two-handed finish. Middle of the field, line drive results. Raw exit velocity off the tee was 77 MPH, up 8 MPH from last summer. Defensively- Athletic base in his secondary setup behind the plate; leaves the crouch a little bit early causing for loss of momentum and delay in transfer. Arm strength peaked at 70 MPH with pop times ranging from 2.26-2.38. Quicker times observed in this summer's scout blog and last August's workout.

July 2018

Wide setup, durable frame, quick footwork with a clean transfer. 2.09 pop time to second. Made an athletic catch at the backstop in the 3rd inning. Line drive double down the LF line, very aggressive at the plate.

Campus Series-Oswego (August 15, 2017)

Schumaker stands 5-foot-7, 151-pounds with a strong build from a smaller frame. Offensively- Even setup with his stance. Compact and strong, short path to the ball, mostly level through contact. Exit velocity peaked at 69 MPH. Defensively- Behind the plate sets up with a wide open stance, clean receiver, quick hands. Pop-time ranges 2.0-2.09 with 69 MPH arm-strength with signs of more in the tank.
