The 6-foot-3 195 pound RHP who works from the glove side of the rubber with a slightly uptempo delivery and a high 3/4 slot. impressed with an 84-86 MPH fastball that was offset with a 2-seam that showed some arm side action and a sharp 11-5/12-6 CB that featured late downward break at 69-72 MPH. Threw a solid 2 innings at Cooperstown keeping a powerful lineup off-balance with his offerings. Impressive recent gains in the last calendar year.
June 25-27 (NYS Games)
Tall, lean frame with more room to add weight. Good body control and balance in his delivery. His actions are simple and efficient. No wasted movement. He has a high takeaway with his throwing arm after hand break. He keeps the ball high and shows it to CF instead of creating any type of arm swing. It's a bit unorthodox but it works for him and he can repeat it. FB has good arm side run and comes out of his hand easily sitting 82-84 mph. Has a good feel for keeping it down in the zone. The CB is a solid pitch and he manages to stay on top of it consistently, 70-72. Has more of a slurve type of action but it carries good depth into the strike zone. Natural feel for pitching. Could make a big jump if he adds more strength to his body.
Preseason - West (February 19, 2018)
Boyle has premium size standing 6-foot-3, 185-pounds with signs of more physically gains to come. He uses a quick rhythm to his delivery, high knee lift with set around his upper chest area. He shows above average hip mobility has he drives forward before release. Arm action is back and high, slightly choppy but does get full extension out in front, releases from a high 3/4 slot. Fastball jumps at 82-84 mph (up six mph since OCT) with some late depth, two-seam really dives arm side, releases that pitch from a slightly lower 3/4 slot. Curveball has above average 11/5 shape sitting 69-70, change-up is firm in the upper 70's on one plane. Overall, very excited about Boyle's future. He's gained 20-pounds since Oct. and looks more physical. Cleaning up his arm-action on the back will only help. Look forward to seeing him this spring/summer.
Last Chance Preview-Upstate (October 14, 2017)
Boyle stands 6-foot-2, 165-pounds with a frame to build on, strong lower half. Wide stance on the setup, quick pace to his delivery, high knee lift. Arm-action is back and quick, full extension out in front with some quickness at release, fastball peaked at 78 mph sitting 76-77. Stride is average for his size but would benefit from more length. Curveball at times has hard late bite (when he uses same FB handspeed), shape is 11/4. Overall, frame and height is appealing, more arm-strength and body flexibility with take his game to the next-level.
