Comments
Powerfully-built, athletic frame at 6-foot-4, 230 pounds. Offensively - smooth and fluid swing, full extension after impact with exit velocity of 93 MPH, effective load, keeps head down, quick and powerful hands, repeatable motion, further lower body engagement will improve consistency, has more in the tank. Pitching - effortless delivery, uses height to get downward plane on fastball that explodes at the plate at 83-86 MPH, actualizing full potential of hip tilt at balance point will maximize power, throws curveball at 68-70 MPH for strikes, exciting possibilities.
Big Apple Preview (October 8, 2016)
Physical 6-foot-4 210 pound RHP/1B who ran a 7.45 60. Offensively- Sets up in a spread stance using an up and down stride with a short take back. Good balance at the plate; aggressive lower half with a flat swing plane though the zone. Elevated finish with some lean back; plus power to his pull side but doesn't get lift happy. Run producer approach; 95 MPH exit velocity. Defensively- Serviceable footwork and glove; uses a low 3/4 slinger's arm action on shorter throws. Flashed a 78 MPH throw when going across the diamond. With some polish could compete defensively and as a position player (either at 1B or a corner OF spot). Pitching- Controlled pace up to a compact balance point. Arm action length can vary but maintains a 3/4 slot. Stays tall with a firm front side; limited arm extension on FB, often recoiling into his finish. FB sat 86-88 MPH featuring some late cut action. Featured a 12-to-6 spike CB with late bite at 66-68 MPH. Extended arm action with an improved finish could get him over the 90 MPH mark; power pitcher's frame that could be a workhorse at the next level.
