Comments
Augustine is a full bodied 5-ffot-10 1932 pound catcher who ran a 7.87 60. Offensively- Sets up narrow and slightly open with front foot; controlled take back with the hands while gaining ground on the stride. Almost twice as wide as his shoulders after stride; explosive up top with his hands through the zone, late finish with legs lower half. Attacks the ball with intent; middle of the field drive and lift with a 3 MPH jump in his exit velocity of 87 MPH. Defensively- Compact, balanced setup. Hops out to secondary position; adequate exchange of the feet, gaining ground while staying tight to the plate. Slight gap on the exchange; short arm action (72 MPH) while staying back through his finish. Completing his arm extension along with more of follow through will help with carry. Throws were on the bag and ranged between 2.09-2.18. Well balanced game both offensively and defensively.
Western NY Prospect Preview (July 5, 2016
Augustine is a solid 5-foot-10, 192 pounds. A C/OF, he ran a 4.71 home to 1B. Offensively- Justin digs in with his feet wider than shoulder width, and his hands shoulder height right at his back shoulder. Has an effective load, with an aggressive hip rotation when making contact. Some lift to his swing but mostly line drive results; 84 MPH exit velocity. Defensively- Justin sets up with his lower half almost 45 degrees towards the 1B side. When receiving, he stays soft. Justin showed an arm strength of 72 MPH; best pop time a 2.06. Slight delay between catch and transfer, that with work will get him down to 2.0 or better.
