Comments
Stands 6-foot-2, 165-pounds with a slender frame. Ran a 7.13 60-yard dash, 88-mph exit velocity, and a threw it 77-mph across the diamond. Offensively- At the plate sets up tall with a simple load. Stays compact through the zone with a high 1 hand release finish.Line drive results; showed some juice to his pull side. Defensively- Flashed some great glove work throughout the games showing great lateral range and release. Uses an additional shuffle at times but stays active, maintaining momentum throughout. Definitely one of the better defenders we've seen up the middle in the state
Preseason All-State (February 28, 2016)
Stands 6-foot-2, 165-pounds with a lanky build. Ran a 7.19 60-yard dash and a 4.21 down the line, and impressed both in the field and at the plate. Offensively- Sets up tall and slightly open, strides into line and uses a consistent bat path with a line drive, hard contact approach. Exit speed was up to 88-mph which shows he may even have a little more pop than he's showing. Defensively- Shows soft hands and good actions up the middle with a 75-mph arm across the diamond. Overall Laplante looks like a certain college level infielder with some upside at the plate.
WNY Pro Holiday Clinic (December 19, 2015)
This 2017 middle guy stands 6’2 160 pounds with an athletic, lanky frame. Offensively- At the plate he stands tall and relaxed with hands at ear level. He uses a small straight stride and remains quiet in the hands at his load. Bat path was direct to the ball with a high one hand finish. With added size in the weight room the natural whip in his swing should continue to gain strength at the plate. Defensively- In the field he showed athletic footwork with soft hands. Arm slot was just below ¾. Though the exit speed was only 76 mph it looks like there’s a lot more in the tank from this athletic junior.
