June 25-27, 2018 (NYS Games)

60 Yard Dash:
7.85
Exit Velocity:
87
Positional Arm:

Well built frame, durable and sturdy. Active around the bag, arm-strength is suitable for 1B with carry and accuracy. In the box the hands start high, smooth rhythm from his load to point of contact, hard contact with power to his pull side projection. Nice looking prospect from the greater Elmira area. Pitching - Average size and frame. Worked from an over the top release point with a steady pace to his actions. Delievery is simple and he stays within his legs well. When everything is on time he can create good downward plane on all of his pitches. Should eventually have solid command of an average 3 pitch mix. FB peaked 76 mph from the left-side.

Preseason - West (February 19, 2018)

Stowell is a 6-foot-1 195-pound left-handed first baseman and pitcher. Solid frame with room to fill out; he ran a 7.99 60 and 4.85 home-to-1B. Offensively- Starts open with hands high; wiggles bat a little bit pre pitch. Big leg kick for timing; explodes through the ball, uses lower half well. Extends through the ball well with a one handed finish; uses middle of the field with some punch to pull side. 86 MPH exit velocity. Defensively- Active feet allows for easy movement to the ball. Gets around the ball well and throws with intent towards target; 72 MPH positional arm strength. Pitching- Sets up in the middle of the rubber, steps off and brings hands over the head. Brings knee up towards chest, throws hard downhill with intent. Arm action is long with a slight pause during his backswing. Fastball sat 74-76 MPH. Off-speed needs some development as change up was elevated in the upper 60’s-low 70’s and curveball backed up on him at 67-68 MPH.

Western NY All-Star Games (September 24, 2017)

standing at 6-foot-0, 195-pounds with a solidly built frame at the corner position. Offensively- From the left-side of the plate he uses an open stance with his hands high, loose with slight waggle. Back load for timing dropping his hands before the swing, heel-lift back to even, hands power short to the ball, barrel plane is slight uphill through contact, shows strength in swing to pull-side, 86 mph exit velocity with more to come as his body continues to get stronger. The bat projects. Defensively- Shows serviceable footwork, stays behind the ball with open glove, releases from an over-the-top slot with accuracy. Overall, Stowell has started to show signs of juice in the bat from the left-side the more we see him. Hitting the weight room this off-season should provide extreme value to his game, not only improving his bat-strength but focusing on improvements with his arm-strength and foot-speed. This will be a big offseason for the Southern-Tier first basemen.

Buckeye Elite Showcase (July 12, 2017)

Defensively- the first baseman showcases good footwork. Feet stay square to the ball and he creates decent throwing angles. Transfers the ball smoothly with developing glove skills. Throws from a 3/4 release with developing arm strength. Offensively- A left-handed hitter that starts in a balanced setup. Barrel gets vertical during his leg kick load. Path is level with some loft at times. Barrel has some whip through the zone. Strength is the tool that stood out in his swing. A line drive type guy with the ability to find the gap. Has a middle of the lineup look to him. Pitching- On the mound the Southpaw has a fluid tempo to a delivery that requires some effort. Work through a near over the top slot with developing arm speed. Fastball works downhill and was in the zone frequently. Breaking ball has gradual break, working on a 1/7 plane. Looked comfortable and confident with the offering that wasn’t a big breaker but did enough to miss barrels. Also showed feel for his changeup, maintaining fastball arm speed. The pitch showed some late sink to it.

Campus Series-St. Bonaventure (July 11, 2017)

Stowell stands in at 6-foot-0, 195-pounds with a lean athletic frame. Ran a 4.74 home to first, slightly faster than his posted 4.85 last week at the Canisius Campus Event. Offensively- Lefty sets up in an open stance with his feet shoulder width apart. Shows a slight knee bend with an upright torso holding the bat above the back shoulder using little pre-pitch bat movement. On pitch, his trigger is a knee raise in to stride forward while his hands move back and down slightly into his hitting position. Good lower body rotation getting hips cleared and using whole body frame in swing process. Shows quick hands to the hitting zone with a level barrel path throughout into a mid-body two-handed finish. Demonstrated line drive ability up the middle and to the opposite field during batting practice round. Recorded an exit velocity of 83 MPH, 1 MPH faster than last week at the Canisius Campus Event. Defensively- Continues to show a good approach and footwork getting to the baseball. Clean fielding mechanics with good movement off the bag at first. Comes off athletically and can make the play with aggressive footwork towards intended throwing target. Recorded a positional arm velocity of 71 MPH, a 6 MPH improvement from last week. Pitching- Sets up in the middle of the rubber with a long side step into a high leg raise above the hip crease. Breaks down well with good separation and loose arm action into a high ¾ release. Utilizes his lower half well with good pull from the upper half and has a strong follow through getting himself into a good fielding position after release. Fastball range was 71-72 MPH and peaked at 72 MPH with little arm side run. Curveball was 67-68 MPH with 12/6 action and a late break.
